If I think back to when I was in middle school and how we acted and how dramatic things seemed, this show is accurate in how middle schoolers are. I think the show is cute.
When I see people rate this low just based on the fact that the "inappropriate" part of this show is the fact that girls the age where they normally get their period, mention and talk about their period (because believe me, when I was in middle school, that was actually a thing), it makes no sense. If you think about the demographic for the viewers of this show, which I would say probably includes girls who get what they are depicting in the show, it makes sense that they'd mention that. There's no reason to hide something that all girls go through and can actually have something in common with characters in the show. They're depicting what it's like to be a teen girl and just because it's a Disney show, doesn't mean it should be all rainbows and flowers and be ignorant and tells girls that it's still something to be ashamed of and having a period is "inappropriate", when it's just life.

Don't listen to the other reviews the show is fine

Watched the first 3 episodes, and I gotta say the other reviews are very over dramatic. Similar to our main character. Yes the show is somewhat adult, but it talks about real issues that your modern middle schooler will face. I would greatly advise if you're going to sit and watch this as a family you do so with your kids when they are target age group, that being 11-13 years old. Also this show offers great representation to my fellow Hispanic and colored community. Even if the dialogue at times can be somewhat dorky, the show is fine, it's nowhere not the level of The Color of Friendship or even Girl Meets World, but it's fine; it's harmless and relevant.
Low reviews are ridiculous

This show is great. The girls are normal pre-teens who are well-behaved and curious. The person who said that because Disney mentions periods, they are sexualizing a kids show - WOW - just wow. Your kid is going to grow up really sheltered and shocked at normal life. Good luck. I prefer to sit with my kids and watch a show that inspires them to be a good president and answer their questions about life. Kudos to Disney!
Great show for current events

This show is perfect for kids. Those complaining about the period scenes, as a kid, I remember having these conversations, so it is normal. For those saying this show is for an "entitled generation" thinking they can become anything, is just a bitter person that couldn't achieve anything, so they take it out on a tv show.
Seeing a latino cast is just what we needed growing up. I remember watching boy meets world as a child, and loved it. Hoping for more seasons!

Quit rating this show badly just cause your 3 y/o wasn't interested

Ok.... This show is amazing. A year later I still enjoy it and I am in fact watching it right now. I am 12 going on 13 but I first started watching this at 11 with my mom. Rating this show badly just because you didn't want your 3 year old watching because it talked about normal middle school things is so stupid. Did you even see the description about the show itself? She faces middle school problems. Why did you figure your 3 year old would be interested in that? Besides from that, this is such a good show, as it made me feel closer to my mom. I was never a kid who was open talking about periods or anything like that and so by watching this, it was a nice way for my mom to talk to me about it through the show. I'm awaiting the next season and I am very excited. Give it a go if you wanna try something new.
Interesting Premise

I lol'd at the person who said this show is entitled because a middle schooler wants to be president? Glad they tell their children to aim low??
That aside, this show has a pretty cute premise and competing writing. It's pretty accurate to today's middle schooler and just that knowledge alone should be enough to say this isn't Barney for 2 year olds. General age of 8+ I'd say.

Bad, just flat out bad

This show is a walking disaster. It is so trite and cliche, it is hard to believe that professional writers write it. It is also so entirely predictable.
It is bad enough that someone at Disney bought this program the first time around, but it makes me question the leadership at Disney when shows like this make it to their channels.

Really cute show

Loved how they really really depicted what middle schoolers go through. And honestly the harsh reviewers must be blind or forgotten what middle school was like. I think they do a great job of showing involved parenting considering that young teens ARE learning more about themselves, sex, and the world. But the writers do a great job of keeping a cap on it by making the adults involved and caring unlike a lot of other past Disney shows. Also love that the show is so culturally diverse.
Entertaining, teenage/adult show
asap1223-838-3382216 October 2021
Entertaining for sure...for me. An adult. However, having a 9 year old daughter, I expected not to have to filter the word a$$ out of a Disney show, nor think about not only explaining 2nd base...or having it displayed with a bra on a pillow (luckily my daughter missed that portion of the episode) and we shut down the show for her just after. Bra's and periods are subject matters we have discussed, as we are a pretty open family, but she IS still 9... and while she knows and has heard adult language (as it exists in the world) it is...ADULT language. I had been excited for the woman empowerment aspect as this was supposed to follow the young girl to her journey to presidency...and I personally will watch it, but disappointed that my daughter will not get to enjoy it.
Woke Garbage

Not As Inappropriate as People Make it Seem
sammyv_620 August 2021
Disney shows have never shyed away from tough topics. Lizzie McGuire and Hannah Montana both talked about bras. Lizzie also talked about eating disorders. That's So Raven tackled racism. Smart Guy took on child predators. And so on, and so forth. Why are people only mad when it comes to talking about being gay or having your period?
Disney Degrassi

I don't think this show is rated correctly but I do love the characters and I love how it's based on a diary of a middle school girl who will become President. It feels like degrassi but on Disney channel. They only thing I'm a little annoyed by is how many storylines are happening. I can't keep up and it is sometimes exhausting. But overall it's good.

Great Story Line. Not Family Friendly.
brinlyfoxall29 January 2020
The show is cute with a great story line. However, I was expected a nice family show. The content is inappropriate for young children. All of the inappropriate references could have easily been omitted from the script. Disappointed with the direction and content Disney is allowing on their family tv series.
Quarantined? Must watch

The only shame here is there isn't yet a second season. The final episode leaves you wanting to know more. This show depicts family life in a way not seen on TV until now. It also works to paint a bright future for the world. Adults like myself can enjoy the upbeat show, but it is perfect for adolescent and teenage boys and girls.
Terrible

Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea why I watched the second season. This show is terrible and unnecessarily inappropriate. Inappropriate is fine if ur older but why is this G?!?! Let me save you time. Warning: Spoilers for people who want to watch this show?!?! Elena wants to be important so she goes through a bunch of boring adventures like sneaking into a bra store?!?! Anyway the show ends on a cliff hanger and doesn't have any climax in season 2. If you've already watched season one don't expect answers to plot points in season 2. We don't find out if Elena got class president. Bobby doesn't tell Liam that he liked him instead he ended up with some random dude. Joey turns out to suck. And yeah that's it.
This show rocks.

Most of the criticisms that I've seen regarding this show are simply not true. No, this show isn't overly political. In fact, this show doesn't contain anything political whatsoever. It's a show about middle schoolers. Further, there's nothing overly PC about this show. Unless you consider being hispanic overly PC, in which case, I hate to break it to you, but hispanic people do actually exist. This show is cute and sweet, and perfect for middle schoolers. None of that laugh track and fart joke nonsense they have going on on Disney Channel.
Terrible, miss it please!

Could not believe what I was watching here! Settled down to watch this TVPG with my 8 year old daughter and probably less than 10 minutes in...i had to turn if off! All the girls talking about their period and talking about tampons, it was gross and felt very forced and the actresses looked like they were completely embarrassed by what they were saying, if Disney is making this kind of garbage then rate it accordingly, maybe a PG-13 would've been more appropriate? If you have younger kids do yourself a favor and give this a huge miss! Shame on you Disney, always need to sexualize kids shows, disgusting.
Adorable show, should 100% be TV-14
meganandnathan9 February 2020
This show is really funny and sweet. It represents marginalized populations, like LGBTQ+, Latinx, women, etc. I love all the empowerment and how they normalize periods, tampons, bras-love it. The thing I did NOT love for my young kids was talking about "Miami second base", showing teenage boys practicing second base with a pillow, and kids playing "7 minutes in heaven". Those are probably typical middle school happenings but I wish I would have had a heads up with a more accurate rating. I watched with my 3 elementary school aged kids but I would recommend 13+ years old.
marvelous show, amazing for all ages
arrogersr16 March 2020
This is by far one of the best shows I have laid eyes on in a while. It talks about the topics that majority of the world are too afraid to bring up, and it's starting a conversation. It has amazing Latinx representation, as well as LGBTQ+, and explores the many different personalities one could have. I highly recommend, and would be incredible if it got a season two.
Its a great show! Highly Suggest
marlenedr13 April 2020
The other reviews are really dramatic, why would you mark a show for kids at 14 years when it talks about subjects ur gonna experience at 12? Its a great show thats a little more mature than other shows on Disney + and thats the beauty of it. I highly suggest it. At time it can seem a bit cartoonish and rocky and the intro is a bit odd, but I think it adds to the nature of the show and the magic of it. Highly suggest
High Five Disney

I'm so glad that Disney has this show with every aspect that it contains, because it gives me the opportunity to discuss growing moments with my child while enjoying a light hearted family show. So, for our family, we will continue to enjoy it for hopefully multiple years to come!
Progressive and lovable
fairymyth16 March 2020
Diary of a Future President is one of the best Disney shows ever made! It is much more mature compared to other Disney shows but still great for people of all ages. There is something to love for everyone! Also, the show has really great representation and diversity. It makes me so happy to see! Every character has an important story to tell and all of it is told in a very entertaining way as well.
