But what's the story?
skteosk23 November 2020
This starts out with a bang, but unfortunately it settles down a bit too much after that. Mel, Macy and Maggie escape an attack on their house and end up in Seattle. After which they wander round a building meeting a couple of characters who are probably going to be important later and have a throwaway encounter with some anonymous villains of the week. And really, that's it.

The closing scenes, which provide a new role for the sisters and a new direction for the series, seemingly shorn of all its supporting cast and mythology, do at least set the stage for the future. But that's the problem: This is all set-up with very little pay-off, so on its own it falls rather flat.

Rebooting the reboot!
blynasir012 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This season premiere is going to be pretty divisive to fans of both reboot and OG but I think it was a great first step in course correcting many of the mistakes that happened in the rough season one.

While losing the Book of Shadows and the powers might be an offense to some fans, I think it's necessary for the sisters so they can go back to basics and hone the stuff that they should have been focusing on all along: witchcraft.

The new showrunners already seem to be listening to the fans on the problems we had in the first season and what we want to see from this show in the future and I'm confident that they'll deliver.

Greatest season opener of the decade!

Warning: Spoilers
Charmed season 2 has arrived and oh my! This EVERYTHING! This season is definitely going to a darker, edgier, creepier direction and it was much needed! Season 1 was good, but it relied on the original too much, it felt like the show couldn't stand on its own, but season 2 just proved that this version of charmed is not a remake but in fact a whole different show. The writing is brilliant, the characters have matured, we get to see different dynamics, better special effects for magic and we get to learn much more about magic and its origins.

These are the best witches the world has to offer?

This episode suffers from a common problem for the show: trying to create too much drama/tension. What do I mean? Consider this: The sisters teleport to a strange room with a giant map on the wall. Soon, flashing red lights appear on the map. Gee, what could that mean? They fret a bit before deciding to push the Big Red Button, opening another portal. But when they step through, they have no idea where it has taken them...? Give me a break! But no, they have to have a dramatic moment of realization where each sister chimes in with a piece of the explanation, spelling it out for the audience. Thanks, but I think we all figured it out the moment we saw the map! I like my shows to treat me as an intelligent audience member, not give lengthy exposition to every little detail.

Course Correcting in the Right Direction
markboehm13-387-60770628 September 2022
Season One was a very roughly pieced together and poor imitation of several seasons of the original show. It was lackluster and sloppy.

While it is probably shocking to fans old and new that the beloved Book of Shadows is GONE by the end of the episode and showing no signs of returning, it creates a new and unique predicament for Charmed ones that fans have never seen their respective favorite trio(s) in before.

Season Two clearly seeks to fix that, focusing on original ideas that take the sisters and the story in a whole new and unpredictable direction. This episode sets the stage for one of my favorite seasons of any show.
