Ghostbusters (2016)
Funniest movie I've seen in ages!
Saw this today in a packed theater.
This is a screamingly funny movie. Excellent characters, shout-outs, and script.
Just about everyone in the theater wanted to see it again. Immediately. I'm seeing it again later this week.
The original Ghostbusters is 36 years old, and ripe for a reboot. (I saw it when it came out, and while it was decent, I never felt the need to see it again, or own it.)
So, ignore all the suspiciously early reviews (it opened on the 15th). Make up your own mind, and go see it!
Remo Williams: The Prophecy (1988)
Another pilot that should have been a show...
I saw this when it first aired. It was dumped on TV over the summer after the movie came out, I guess after the Powers that Be decided not to make the series. I distinctly remember thinking that they had finally cast Remo correctly! Thin, big wrists, bad sense of humor, and a very good martial artist. (I love Fred Ward, but he was never Remo to me.) Joel Grey was a very good Chiun as well, though at the time I thought that they would never have him on the regular series, since it wasn't Broadway. Silly me. The humor was there, the characterization... the writers were much more in tune with the books than the movie was. I don't remember the details well, as it was a long time ago. I sure wish they had gone ahead with the series.
Toy Story 2 (1999)
Absolutely the tops!
Saw this with my 9-year-old nephews and we all loved it. Just as many laughs, chills and sly inside jokes as its predecessor. One of the *very* few movies in 1999 that I will see more than once. You will love it!
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Not the Second Coming, but a solid movie!
If you are expecting The Best Movie Ever Made, this isn't it. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It got off to a bit of a slow start, but I think it does a good job of setting up the whole series. Lots of cameos of future characters for the obsessive fans, action for all, and a decent story. I'll see it again after the crowds thin out a bit.
