The Scooby-Doo Project (1999)
Enjoyable Parody of the Blair Witch Project Featuring Scooby and the gang.
The Scooby Doo Project was a Cartoon Network feature that was originally shown in pieces between shows and commercials. The work is a takeoff on the Blair Witch Project and featured brief clips of those meddling kids arriving in the woods to investigate strange events only to have things start to go wrong. The show was then supposed to be shown in its entirety. For some reason the network did not include all of the filmed sequences, especially interesting was the missing sequence in which Scrappy shows up and the gang is not happy, one character asking, `Who invited him?' A nice little parody well executed. I would love to get a copy of the entire group of sequences they made.
Quatermass and the Pit (1967)
An ancient evil is released during work on a subway station
One of the best Science Fiction films ever made. It is thoughtful and exciting. The special effects hold up well for the most part. The story tells of how an ancient spaceship is discovered during the excavation of an underground station in London and how officials can not understand the dangers it might hold. An interesting note: the ability to visualize what someone is seeing become a reality in 1999 when scientists were able to see the world through the eyes of a cat.
The Black Scorpion (1957)
A "Them" clone with scorpions. Set in Mexico.
A "Them" want-to-be this movie follows the destruction caused by a group of giant scorpions. The creatures have been living in caverns under the ground of Mexico. Once released into the world above they proceed to attack every one and everything in Mexico City. The creatures eventually end up attacking each other leaving only the largest one for the poor humans to deal with. The Black Scorpion is lured into Aztec Stadium where the movie reaches it climax, such as it is. A good movie if you like really, really bad science-fiction.
