Queer as Folk (2022)
Watched the whole season
Good production and I like casting our community telling our stories. Some of the stories were a bit much. My biggest dislike was Brodie. His character was annoying for the lead. And just didn't buy Ruthie as a teacher or mother. As slutty as it was (and it pushed boundaries), I didn't find it sexy. Some of the sex scenes were obvious and too fake. Was surprised they did an HIV story, like it was required. The diversity was welcome, just needed some stronger more likable characters.
Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas (2021)
Finally hired gay writer
This and the spinoff really integrated a gay sensibility more than ever. Hunky guys and actual gay actors. Funny how the gay characters are back but not on the daily show, which I stopped watching because they are gone. Loved the strip Santas. Cancel DOOL and keep this campy, sexy, fun.
Tales of the City (2019)
Questions and compliments
I love the diversity and the generational conversations that arise like the dinner table use of "tranny". Nailed it.
The sex scene between Charlie Barnett and Murraly Bartlett looked very realistic -so hot.
The twins are obviously DeDe's from her past story. Why are they not identified as such? Did they start something and then edit it out?
The timeline of ages and dates really did a number on me which I had to suspend to accept and embrace this new telling.
Swell (2017)
Waste of hot actors on poor script
15 episodes less than 10 min each. Most of them shot on a bench in the park.
Two bisexual men talk about hooking up but never even take off their shirts. The dialog should have been better in a bed, post sex.
Other characters thrown in unrelated and disconnected. Scenes and characters showcased in opening credits and in pictures don't exist.
I have the hots for the lead Eric Colton or I would have never watched all of it.
Actors did their best.
John Apple Jack (2013)
Sexy Factor
The actors are sexy, especially Chris, but he doesn't look at all like he does in the movie. He has much longer hair in real life and a hairy chest that was bare in the movie. Curious as to why they shaved it.
His personality was sexy in the movie, don't know about his real life personality.
Moonlight (2016)
Casting Gay
I didn't like it as much at first but it stuck with me. I think it was powerful. My only concern is the casting. As far as I can tell, none of the main actors were gay. It remains to be a story about them, not us, unless we are included in the storytelling.
Can you imagine an black, gay actor rising to fame because of this role and now having an audience and fan base? They don't cast big parts with gay actors cause they aren't big enough yet. How they going to become big? In this case, it wasn't expected to be as big as it was, even more so, then cast us! Yes, the acting was great. Maybe it could have been just as great or even better with actors who had been there.
Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List (2015)
For younger crowd
Saw it as part of Outfest 2015. Definitely a good film for younger women in love with gay men. As an older gay man, I was inpatient with the story. Found it predictable. Naomi is immature and annoying. Didn't see the point of the No Kiss List considering their relationships at the beginning.
I found it difficult to understand the actors at beginning. Don't know why, whether the sound wasn't good, the music too much, or they mumbled. Got better. Didn't believe them as college age. The guys are hot but there is only a little skin. And the actors playing them are straight which ruins any fantasy I might have had. My best girlfriend saw it with me. She hated it more than I did.
Private Romeo (2011)
Not popular with crowd
I saw the film at Outfest at the Ford. We were a trapped audience due to the stacked parking in the lot. Otherwise, I believe many would have left early. Lots of grumbles as we were walking out. No one understood the movie. It was a warped idea of a modern Romeo & Juliet that just didn't work. The script was forced to format. The actors were good and surprisingly got an award from Outfest for their acting. It also had moments of music video stuff out of the blue thrown into the middle of the movie that didn't have anything to do with the plot. No one I talked to liked the movie accept the distributor who picked it up over all the other great movies that played at the festival.
Whirlwind (2007)
I liked it
It really fit its title well. I liked how it characterized this group of men as a family to each other. There was a driving story -the work toward's the party. Each character was challenged and each grew from it.
I think more background about Drake's history might have been nice and a little bit more sexiness. Drake is hot as the poster shows us, but we don't see his chest that much. After all, gay films have an obligation to show a little bit of butt, at the very least.
I thought it was a nice surprise. When they are bad, I fast forward through them. I didn't this one. I also liked that the DVD has a director's monologue, but I wanted to know more about the casting which it didn't reveal.
I also find it refreshing when most of the actors are gay. I want gay actors playing the gay parts. They do a better job and we need to support our out gay actors and stop giving away all the gay money to others.
