Ravenous (1999)
Yummy.
With the exceptions of the really inappropriate score and the choppy dialogue, I thought Ravenous was both suspenseful and action-packed. It was very bloody at times and skirted cannibalistic metaphors but it was a rollicking ride, an edge-of-your seat thriller. Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle are great.
Paint Cans (1994)
A brilliant satire
I think Paint Cans is a brilliant satire on the Canadian film industry. It has all the conniving, dark humour and reality of making a film in Canada with limited funds and "meta-ideas".
The Avengers (1998)
It's a fun movie.
Alright. So the two main actors don't entirely capture the amazing chemistry of Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg and the pacing was a bit slow. The Avengers is still a good movie. It has dazzling effects, is full of sound and LOTS of style. The plot was simple and both Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman seemed at odds playing the amazing duo, still it had moments of charm and humour. Fiennes' turn as Steed was good and though Uma sounded a bit forced in her betrayal of Emma Peel, she pulled it off with a bit of slinkiness and derring-do when asked. It's a fun movie, rather light -hearted like the original series.
Doctor Zhivago (1965)
A brilliant movie from a brilliant novel
Doctor Zhivago is one of the century's greatest movies and novels. In the novel, Pasternak captures the Russian soul in a simple and unostentatious manner. David Lean goes further and makes a film that is moving and unforgettable in every respect- the acting, the camera shots, the scenery ,the score (wonderfully done by Maurice Jarre), the script. It is a must-see movie for everyone.
