Road Kill (1999)
Thoroughly enjoyable road movie, with strong performances and promising script.
Checked this one out at the Santa Barbara film festival. It's a shame the release wasn't wider, there are definite cult possibilities. Impressive performance from "Silver Spoons" alum Billy Jayne. Perhaps a little too "pretentious student film" but had a lot of laughs and an unexpected touch to the end of the film.
The Haunting (1999)
A good ghost story!
People expecting a horror movie might be disappointed by this one. It is however, quite a good little ghost story -- more creepy than horrific. The special effects are extremely well done. Even if the critics didn't like it, I did.
Hak hap (1996)
It would be kind to call the US version utter crap
If the film had been subtitled, perhaps it would have been watchable. In its dubbed condition the film is hardly worth mentioning. The stunts are of excellent quality, but lack the creativity and spark one expects from Hong Kong action fare. As for the art direction Jet Li's costume was a little too close to Kato of the Green Hornet (Bruce Lee he is not). I suggest that if you plan on renting a little Hong Kong action you may want to stick with The Killer.
