yet another bad review
10 March 2000
after reading all the horrible reviews preceeding me, i'm almost embarrassed adding to the list, but i wanted to mention the main point that seemed to be a shining example of how ridiculous the movie was. When Sinese's character is attempting to log onto the computer to find the leak in the ship (1st 30 minutes) why is there a voice authorization on the computer? there are 4 people on that ship, and they're not likely to be taken over by the Klingons...i would have walked out of this film if i didn't have to shut the projector down. don't waste your time.

worst movie of 2000 (so far)
18 February 2000
first off, i'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but i do love star trek tng. my major problem with sci fi is the fact that it operates in an entirely unique universe than ours, and you have to be introduced to a whole new world and set of rules, ect. which is exactly why this movie made me want to throw things at the screen. throughout the whole movie, i kept asking why...why were these vastly different characters on the ship, why was there a criminal aboard, where were they going...the movie leaps from plot points without letting the audience in on the story, which leads me to believe the plot is so outrageous, they couldn't explain why things were the way they were. or maybe the plot is so non-existant they just wanted to throw some neat scenes and one-liners on the screen. as far as the acting, i found it lacking...the unknowns seemed to be generic versions of the big hollywood players (not that that would have saved the movie). but of course, after reading all these raves about the movie, i wonder if it's simply because i'm not a sci-fi fan i can't appreciate it.

intense, and powerfully real
11 September 1999
This harsh look at life in present day Belgrade is a basic 'Day in the life', but like none other I've seen before. Do not see this movie to escape from reality, because it will drive the horror of their situation into you. This is a hard movie to watch, but well worthwhile. The characters and stories are developed, and then the camera veers off into side stories which do not leave you unsatisfied, surprisingly. The movie is threaded around a cabaret performer who leads you into the film with the true statement that "tonight, i'm going to f**k with you". You are drawn into each character's story and plight of the evening, and then are easily drawn into their companion's story as well. Every story has the same ring to it, and the desperate sound of a people and a class being forced down and stamped upon. This film is the most important piece of work i've seen this year, and everyone who has the stomach for it should see it.

"the war story no one ever told you"
23 September 1998
this movie takes war from three different perspective of three different men in different positions in the war and their coping methods. there is no main protagonist, therefore no hero, and we see three different ends to a horrible reality. the story is told wonderfully, with imaginative shots moving between real-time and remembrance. the only failing is the end, when the characters find their "redemption", but one man makes a choice that seems to conflict with his character...perhaps just to satisfy the need for a romantic conclusion, where a man forgets himself in the arms of a woman. beautiful and surprisingly original otherwise.
