Orphans (1998)
A film for anyone who's ever lost someone
Traditions in life and death are important but, in this film they are carried to extreme. It's Glasgow,it's late and anything can happen and does.Peter Mullen provides an ironic view of reactions to grief as epitomized by the family. Each pursues a tragic/comedic personal journey through the night prior to their mother's funeral. A great asset to the Tourist industry highlighting Glasgow's night life. A great cast who feed of each other magnificently. Very funny film.
Ronin (1998)
Seeing this movie means you'll never want to drive in France again
Ronin burns up the road. DeNiro and Reno are a nineties Butch and Sundance.Chasing after the 'briefcase' they do wrong but, are never 'wrong-doers'. You need to give this movie fifteen minutes to light-up,but then it never slows down. Those car chases in Paris and through Nice defy belief;unless you've driven in France, everybody drives that way! DeNiro excels, believable and intimidating ,Reno is a wonderful counterpoint ,at times more an observer than a participant. Excellent stunt work, that tumble in the stadium in Arles looked like it really hurt. Go see, now!
Buffalo Soldiers (1997)
Nice way to spend an hour and a bit
An interesting tale of the Indian Wars. Glover carries the movie as the taciturn n.c.o. still on the receiving end of racism from so called fellow officers .An Indian renegade is on the loose and the US cavalry need to hunt him down and capture or kill him to make the west a safer place The film is a pleasant way to spend an evening not too challenging or provocative, but compelling and compassionate. The rapport between the troops is perhaps too nineties but in essence it is amusing. An interesting counterpoint to the movie Geronimo where the Indians were less one dimensional
