Emma (1996)
wonderful
Although this version is often called "too Hollywood-ized" I absolutely love it. I am a huge fan of the book and have read it umpteen times. I adore this movie, for its charming actors, stunning costumes and scenery, and its playfulness. I can't get enough of it. Jeremy Northam is AMAZING as Mr. Knightley. Gwyneth is a vision and she portrays Emma perfectly, in my opinion---beautiful, smart, and charming, but not in the least bit arrogant or snide. I also think this Mr. Elton is wonderful, as is the actress playing Mrs. Elton LOL! not to mention Miss Bates and Mrs. Weston/Miss Taylor.
I also own and enjoy the A&E version and there are good things about it but also some things I don't quite like...
The Young Riders (1989)
a wonderful part of my youth
I absolutely loved this show during its time, and still do. I have almost every episode on tape. I am just hoping they'll put them all on DVD or even just video, so that I can finally have all of them. I watched it every day it was on and every rerun they played during 1992-1993. It will always be a fond memory for me!! :o)
Mannequin (1987)
80s classic!
I agree completely with jhaggardjr!! This is a silly but absolutely FUN movie that is a classic from my pre-teen years in the 80s. I will always love this movie for its fun and its goofy characters (some great actors here!!) and for being one of those classic movies of my youth.
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
Gwyneth at her best!!
Gwyneth and Joseph are brilliant in this wonderfully romantic movie. Gwyneth always shines, and has flawless grace as Viola. Joseph is passionate and full of spirit. It is funny, tragic, and intense all at once. I give it a million stars.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
overall thumbs up
"Saving Private Ryan" was an excellent movie, but that's no surprise coming from Steven Spielberg. The one thing I would comment on is that there were several sections of the movie that could have been left out, thus making it a little shorter. Several parts were slow and unnecessary, in my opinion. But overall it was a very intense, emotional story that everyone will respect. I recommend it to everyone.
