Catwoman (2004)

Beware the Ringers pumping up this horrible movie
28 July 2004
Isn't it strange that a whole back of positive comments for "Catwoman" just popped up in the past few days? What is even stranger is that 8 of these positve "reviewers" have reviewed only one movie: Catwoman. Draw your own conclusions. As for the movie: Sharon Stone phoned in her performance. Ms Berry danced and pranced to no avail. Is there any way I can get thoese 90 minutes of my life back? Quite a few people left, but I stayed to the end. "He chose poorly". All I can say is: Lame plot, wooden acting, bad special effects. Stay Away! Bad Kitty!

The Stand (1994– )

A good, solid movie.

One good made for TV movie. Granted, it didn't include everything in the book, but you cannot have everything. Both the acting and the music were excellent. A much better adaption that many other Stephen King books that ended up on film. Recommend it highly.

Unusual Movie, but it worked for me!
14 May 2001
I always laugh when I see the peasants with gleaming sets of teeth in all these "period" movies. But having said that, I realize this movie is not about the Middle Ages in Europe, but rather is set in some alternate universe, where modern rock music (as well as speech, mannerisms, and parts of society) have somehow been transplanted onto a more ancient culture. Having started with that disclaimer, I must admit I liked it. There were some large plot holes, and some of the acting was weak (Shannyn Sossamon), but it was a good two hour escape from reality. Bottom line, get yourself a drink and a big bag of popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the fantasy. (And never, ever look for a history lesson!)

A good war flick, but somewhat dated (and not accurate).
15 August 2000
For a 73 year old movie this holds up rather well. Seems like many of the scenes showed up in later movies. The battle scenes were good, but not historical. WWI was basically trench warfare and not battles with snipers in trees. (That's more like WWII in the Pacific.) There were some good shots on No Man's Land, but again, everyone seemed to be fighting out of shell holes. Some of the scenes seem trite, but again, consider the times. Not a classic, but still a very ambitious undertaking considering the state of the film art in 1927. Some of the special effects (like the artillery barrages) were awesome. Definitely worth a look.

The Shining (1997)

A fair made for TV movie. Not as good as the first.

Steven Weber cannot hold a candle to Jack Nicholson. He just cannot carry the scenes. Although the rest of the cast was good, they cannot make up for Weber's weaknesses in the main role. Although truer to the novel, I was not impressed with this remake. I did not get the sense of foreboding and horror as I did with the first. It's rare when a remake is better than the original. This movie continues that tradition.

Lewd, Crude, Rude, but Funny!
23 July 2000
OK, I admit, this movie was over the top in many ways. The broken leg sequence and the bats were a bit much. But I laughed and laughed (and so did most of the folks in the theater.) I am surprised they got by with an R rating. The scene in the stall in the men's room was way out there. Bottom line, it's a funny movie with adult humor that didn't take itself too seriously, and if you're in to gross out humor, go for it!

Great summer action flick, but not historically accurate.
5 July 2000
A rousing action flick. Not a "classic", but a good way to spend three hours this summer. Contains many cliches, cheesy in some scenes, and does engage in gratuitous British bashing. Mel Gibson does an outstanding job. The rest of the cast is good, too. The final battle was very impressive (but again, not historical.) So don't go to this movie expecting a history lessons. Remember, it's only a movie.

Thanks of a Grateful Nation (1998 TV Movie)

Poor acting, cheap sets, and unproven charges.
17 December 1999
Another vast conspiracy movie that tries to blame the US government and the Armed Forces (especially the Army) for every disaster since the Great Flood. Anyone who has ever served time in the US military can see how bogus this film is. Uniforms, equipment, sets, and mannerisms are all wrong. (And of course, all Senior Officers are either corrupt criminals or total idiots.) Blatant propaganda with no attempt at objectivity. Most of the theories presented have been disproven over the past few years. Uses every cliche', rumor, and Urban Legend from the Gulf-all are presented as gospel. (The truth is, no one knows for sure why some GW vets are sick and others are healthy as horses.) PS This is not new. War is NOT fun and I know WWII, Korean, and Viet Nam vets with some pretty serious ailments, too. (And the government has the responsibility to take care of all of them.) Sensationalistic movies like this will not solve the problem!

So lame it needs crutches!

Another disaster of a movie. Unbelievable characters and a script out of the 30's. The ending was SO stupid. Go to the dentist for a root canal as opposed to watching this. This movie is DOA. I cannot recommend it to anyone. Don't even waste your time on this one!

Interesting film, but contrived ending.
16 July 1999
Certainly an interesting concept. What if your neighbors were terrorists? In today's paranoid age, that's a frightening question. The film starts well, but I thought the ending was very forced. One would really have to suspend one's belief to accept what happens. Too many plot holes for me.
