Scrubs: My Musical (2007)
Great balls of fire!
Not since Buffy's musical episode have I looked this forward to singing by a bunch of actors. And last night's episode didn't disappoint. Surprised at how well most of the cast sang. And am really thankful the music wasn't just there to annoy - it was part of the plot. When a woman complains that everyone is singing, the great doctors at Sacred Heart know something is up. Likely she is crazy, but there just could be something wrong. In true Scrubs fashion, we see bosom buddies Turk and JD, always snippy/always in love Turk and Carla, always mean but deep down nice guy Dr. Cox and the rest of the gang - just in song this time.
The Break-Up (2006)
Breaking Up Can be So Cruel
I love Vince Vaughn - from the moment I caught him and Favreau in swingers ! He can do a lot - from the funny The Wedding Crashers to the offbeat redo Psycho and Clay Pigeons. But I've always enjoyed him for his words. Vaughn and Favreau are what Affleck & Damon strive to be but come up short.
This is a RELATIONSHIP movie that anyone can relate to, more so if you have actually been in a relationship where you care about the other but it is just not meant to be.
I like how we quickly catch their first meeting, see a photo show that captures that they have built a relationship, then BAM, we are immediately thrust into their lives today. While the supporting characters are not developed at all, that was fine with me. The focus was on the break up - what two people do when the relationship isn't working but they don't have the courage to move on.
Aniston seems the perfect pick for Brooke. She can do the comedy, let us feel her anger without going over the top, and she never seems to come across as the "I'm so pretty I can't imagine why the guy doesn't care about me" kind of broad.
I did laugh till I cried a few times - maybe that's because I've had breakups where I wish I had had the courage to do some of the things these two characters do. But that wasn't most of the movie.
And I really liked the ending. Won't give it away, but you'll see.
