The Beach (2000)
A waste of a great story.
When I learned that they were going to make a film based on Garland's bestselling novel, I was slightly worried. When I then heard that DiCaprio was going to star, I became even more so. But I was still not prepared for the piece of crap that they had come up with. Lots of scenes have been taken out (for no apparent reason) and replaced with others (also for no apparent reason), leaving a messy, annoying and, at times, boring movie. I was very disappointed. If you've read the book - don't see the film, it's a waste of time. If you've seen the film but haven't read the book, please do so. Don't let the film put you off, it really is a great story.
The Haunting (1999)
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
Well, this movie just really sucks. Why does it suck? The plot. I just can't think of a story-line more boring or stupid. The special effects are all right, but nothing spectacular. Please, do yourself a favor and don't go see it. If you feel that you absolutely have to, wait until it's out on video. Yuck.
Another You (1991)
Not the best plot, but great lines.
Seeing that this movie only received an average vote of 4.3, I felt that I had to set the record straight; it deserves at least a 6. True, the plot isn't the best, but the lines are superb. Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder (a great double team) really work wonders together. So please, do yourself a favour and go rent this movie, it's worth it.
Event Horizon (1997)
One of the scariest movies ever.
"Event Horizon" is a truly fascinating film, and an incredibly frightening one at that. The best (or the worst?) part of the movie is that it doesn't scare you in the something-suddenly-jumps-out-BOO-type-way like in "Scream" (although it does have plenty of that), but more in a mind-boggling terrifying sense. Naturally it isn't all good; the plot has some weaknesses, but all in all it definitely is worth a viewing. Prepare to be frightened though.
The Prince of Egypt (1998)
An entertaining and beautiful film, but with a slight flaw.
The art-work and animation in this film is spectacular, especially the parting of the sea-bit. The music is also very good. Furthermore, the first two-thirds of the movie is humorous, dramatic and entertaining; they plot moving along at a steady pace. But once the Plagues begin, it seems as if the makers had tired and wanted to get it over with, because the plot accelerates almost ridiculously. But all in all, I really enjoyed it.
Lost Highway (1997)
Piece of crap.
Man, what a crappy movie. And don't give me any of that "it's art and you're too ignorant to appreciate it"-bull. Screw that, it's a boring sucky movie that doesn't go anywhere. Don't see it.
