A few of us didn't like it.
15 August 2005
Although all of the previous comments are positive, there were some kids, including myself, who didn't enjoy the show. I remember finding it tedious and largely unwatchable (I was born in April 1980, so I was in the target age group when I was watching it). I distinctly recall changing to other channels or leaving the room when it was on. Luckily, I don't remember it well enough to have the song stuck in my head as a friend of mine (who really hated it) does.

Today's Special (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0198253/), which some other comments have mentioned was pretty good though. My favorites on Nickelodeon back then were Danger Mouse (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081848/) and You Can't Do That On Television (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078714/).

Only somewhat disappointing
23 December 2001
I was expecting a movie worth an 8. I got a move barely worth a 7, so far. I believe many of the problems I had with the film will be fixed in the DVD. For instance, "Where did all of the events between the Shire and Bree go?!" The DVD will most likely contain those scenes and many other which were cut from the theater version.

Of what I did see, many of my favorite parts of the story were missing, such as the part mentioned above and the "Blindfolds" in Lothlorien. The biggest problem I had, though, was not a story problem. It was the poor cinematography. If I am going to pay over $8 to sit in an uncomfortable chair for 3 hours, I want to see something good. I want to see the results of a cinematographer and a director pushing the limits of their art, not just some nerds wagging their big, fast computer graphics in the air.

Some scenes were very well done though. The Balrog looked excellent and Gandalf's dialogue on the bridge was one of the few scenes which were dead on. This scene really makes me look forward to "The Two Towers" when we will see the battle of Helm's Deep and the Seige of Isengard where there should be tons of similarly well done CG creatures (Ents in this case) doing battle.

Overall it is a good movie that you should go see (hopefully without a bunch of screaming homophobes in the theater laughing the whole time Frodo and Sam are together), but don't expect to be thoroughly moved by the picture as a whole.

On a different note, the reaction of IMDB users to this movie really amazed me. As I write this it is 6 days after the film came out, and 9662 users have voted with over 78% of them voting 10. This has resulted in the film being rated as the #1 movie of all time. It is incredible. As history has shown, though, movies tend to move to more reasonable positions over time, such as The Matrix being in or near the top 10 when it came out but being #38 now. I believe this film will stay in the top 50, mabye even in the top 30 for quite a long while, but I would venture to guess that it will be out of the top 10 by Summer 2002.

Thanks for listening to my opinion,

Jarrod Lombardo

Very well directed supernatural flick.
22 December 2001
Some people think this movie is a "Horror" film. If they had watched it they would realize that they are wrong. There are many suspenseful parts of the film, but nothing is scary. There are ghosts and even a demon, but definitely nothing scary.

The story is about a hospital in Denmark and its downfall. The hospital has a history of sterotypically evil goings-on which have been slowly leading up to the revolt of the spirits stuck in the hospital.

If you have 8 hours and want to watch a pretty good movie with excellent direction, watch this. It is very difficult to find here in the States, but surprisingly well translated Hong Kong DVDs can be found on the internet and in Asia. The copy I saw was on DVD, bought in Japan by a friend who had visited there.

Great movie for drinking.
19 February 2000
This movie is kinda funny when you watch it sober. It is much better when you are drunk. Me and my buddies came up with a few drinking games for this movie. Our favorite is to take a shot of whatever we are drinking whenever Courtney Love whines. You will be really drunk in about 20 minutes. The Weiner-Guy Song is also a wonderful scene when you and your buddies know all of the words and are wasted, singing along, loudly. You should really buy this movie and try it.

Gratuitous use of lens flare!!!
30 January 2000
Go see it. There are some unrealistic physics things, like not exploding without a pressure suit in space, but movies are a different universe so we can assume that space is not a near vacuum in the movie universe. There are many many lens flare and unfocused lightbulb shots. Another cool thing is that there are no opening credits. Go see it.

2nd best movie ever
20 November 1999
This is the second best movie ever, with only "Heat" beating it out. Stephen King is a great writer, this being the second best novella in "Different Seasons," "Apt Pupil" being the best of the four stories(I haven't seen the movie yet). Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins work well together, and Thomas Newman's original music is great. "Hope Springs Eternal."

The Wizard (1986–1987)
Like MacGyver but with midgets.
29 August 1999
Like MacGyver but with midgets. David Rappaport (Time Bandits) is really cool climbing on buildings and saving people ala MacGyver. The show was only on for two seasons but it was still one of my favourites when it was on.

The original play is better.
15 December 1998
This is a very cool movie. The ending of the movie is a bit more defined than the play's ending, but either way it is still a good movie.
