Joy Ride (2001)
Good Horror Movie Like "The Hitcher" With C. Thomas Howell
We let our kids watch horror movies that are not too sexually-explicit. This is one of them that is safe for kids to watch. There is only one gross part, where a guy has his lower jaw ripped off. It has CB radios and a lot of driving around in it. This is a COOL movie!
Le pacte des loups (2001)
good movie
This was a good movie. I didn't understand some things completely, but that was okay (as far as historical background). The only thing I thought wasn't necessary was the rape scene. It could have been left out more, and implied more. Otherwise, the movie was worth every minute of the 2 hours and 22 minutes, and the subtitles didn't bother me, even though I missed a few seconds of the words because I was busy musing over the cinematography, which was so beautiful. I didn't get bored during any scenes at all, and many movies have approx. 4 scenes total where I get bored. This movie has a good love story in it, too. Was fitting for Valentine's Day.
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)
silly, mostly effective, and funny spoof
This movie was actually pretty good. It was funny. Don't expect an academy award winner when you go to see this movie. Some of the parts are downright ridiculous and silly and make you think "what?!" but that's the charm of this movie. (By the way, the star of the movie is pretty cute.)
The Fear: Resurrection (1999)
Didn't Make Sense
I agree with the other person who reviewed this film. In addition, a lot of things didn't make sense or add up. I didn't expect this film to be good, but I also didn't expect this film to be so terrible. It's as if no one put a lot of thought into making this movie. (And yes, me and my friends saw the wood guy blinking, too.)
SLC Punk! (1998)
Hey I *liked* this movie... Interesting characters & etc.
Engaging story, with a soundtrack (Fear, Exploited, Ramones, Stooges, Specials, DK, Adolescents, Blondie..) that is better than most mainstream movie soundtracks, and great casting. It's mostly a drama, but there are funny parts. It's just about a kid in high school, and his relationship with his friends, his parents, and society. He's trying to figure out what to do with his future, if anything. His friends and his parents want to decide for him. The dialogue and plot hint at philosophical dilemmas. The storyline is lighthearted but when it's not, it takes you off-guard.
Con Air (1997)
Good movie, and I don't even like "action" genre.
Most action movies are extremely formulaic. This one followed the typical action-movie formula, but for some reason this movie was interesting to me. Maybe it was the casting(Nicholas Cage, Steve Buscemi). Maybe it was the humor. But it was exciting.
Sex Files: Pleasure World (1998)
soft porn
This is actually pretty funny. People go to "pleasure world," which is a resort for people who want to fulfill any sex desire they have. It reminds me of Westworld somewhat. The workers at pleasure world are "inhuman." This show is pretty farfetched, but how much soft porn really makes sense. Most of the comedy in this movie is not meant to be comedy, I don't think. This is an ok movie to watch if you have friends to watch and laugh with, and if you have a remote to forward over the dull parts. The "president" of the U.S. even goes to pleasure world. haha! :)
Home Fries (1998)
pleasantly surprised - thought it'd be terrible
I thought this movie would be terribly silly (from the trailer), and it kind of was, but it was entertaining. There were twists in the plot, and I think that is one thing that kept me interested. 2 of the 4 main characters were pretty interesting, but the other 2 were unrealistic. I'm a Drew Barrymore fan, and that's why I even watched it in the first place. I don't know if it's the type of movie that you would want to see more than once or twice, but it's good entertainment at least that one time.
