A Let Down...
23 September 2000
I heard one critic describe this film as a combination of Seven and Event Horizon (two of my favorite films). So needless to say I was let down when I saw a film lacking interesting characters, and which didn't scare or disturb me at all. I do like Vincent D. and Vince Vaughn, but they weren't given much to work with. I felt no sympathy or attachment to any of the characters. The killer is more pathetic than predatory. Seven and Event Horizon were both superior films. Why the vote of 7 you ask? The sets, costumes, and Jennifer Lopez's butt made it a tolerable movie.

Lawrence Bortman Knows What He's Talking About
1 April 2000
Everyone keeps making comments about the ending being unsatisfying, and the excitement nonexistent. Our society really has lost it's taste for intelligent films. Everybody craves explosions, action, and for nothing to be subtle. Doesn't anyone like symbolism, subtlety, and smart dialogue anymore? If you think the plot was boring, then the meaning of the film went over your head. It may not be the best film on the subject of Hell, evil, and Satan, but The Ninth Gate was much better than most have given it credit for.

So far In the Mouth of Madness is the only film in the Lovecraft tradition worthy of his name
4 June 1999
I was at first, very excited about this film due, to the fact that I am a huge fan of H. P. Lovecraft. But after seeing what amounted to a pathetic version of Creepshow, I was very let down. Don't get me wrong, some of the content was worthy enough to be associated with HP, but much of the film was cheesy and not very engrossing. If you wish to see a Lovecraftian style film, check out In the Mouth of Madness. It is INSPIRED by HP, but not related directly to one of his stories.

Titanic is the most disgusting display of the public's poor taste
9 March 1999
The special effects were excellent......and that is where the praises for this overrated, done-too-many-times, dump of a film end. How many times is Hollywood going to make us watch that ship sink, we've seen it enough. All four movies that Titanic competed with for best picture at the Oscars were superior, espescially As Good As It Gets and the Full Monty. Only the cries of pre-pubecent girls for the small amount of man that is Leonardo DiCaprio shot this movie to the number one money making spot of all time. I get so sick of hearing about how it is the greatest movie ever, as it boasts an unoriginal plot, weak charactor development, and a title track that could drive one to suicide. For those of you who think it's the greatest ever, I have a few alternates, and more reasonable choices...Casablanca, The Godfather, Braveheart, Apocalypse Now, Schindler's List, The Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars, Gone With the Wind, Saving Private Ryan, etc. I could make a list from California to New York of films that are more original and superior in everyway to the overrated Titanic. And James Cameron was the first to give an Oscar speech that made me vomit..."I'm the king of the world!"
