The Magnificent Ambersons (2002)
The Magnificent Disappointment
First off it was a pretty good story with some good acting. Bruce Greenwood as Eugene Morgan gave this film a big lift with an inspiring portrayal of an aspiring "Henry Ford". Madeleine Stowe gave her usual fine performance along with James Cromewell solid as the family patriarch. But from here it is a downward slide. Jennifer Tilley as Aunt Fanny only is capable of an unrealistic crying in every other scene, usually for no apparent reason and Jonathon Rhys-Meyers acting is non-existent and totally non-believable. I watched this on A and E cable so I guess I got what I paid for. With a better Director and more actual acting this could have been a much better picture. I am sure that this screenplay written by Orson Welles has him turning in his grave!!
Traffic (2000)
A Documentary
It seemed like I watched a special on drugs on CNN. The acting was average but I didn't feel like I was watching a story, more like a news event. I certainly did not get any emotional reaction from this movie.
Red Planet (2000)
Not Great, but Not Bad Either
This film seems to fit somewhere in the middle of sci-fi films. It's certainly not in same class as the Star Trek films. On the other hand Red Planet is certainly better than Mission to Mars or Lost in space. There are certainly many flaws if you pay any attention to details but, it was ok to watch. 6 out of a possible 10!!!
Last Stand (2000)
Help!!
This film is a waste! Old storyline, no evidence of acting, directing is clueless, Not even any eye candy! I do not understand why the producer would spend the money to create nothing. Yeah, I didn't like this "Last Stand". It is definitely in my worst top ten. I wish I could say I saw it on late nite cable but, I actually spent the money to rent it ( I love science fiction) but there was no science and way too much fiction. The best thing about it was at least it wasn't sub-titled or dubbed!
The Mexican (2001)
Where's The Story??
Um...What a waste of talent(Brad Pitt,Julia Roberts,Gene Hackman) I was expecting great things and received very little. From the begining I could tell that it was going to be a long boring flick with no story, no plot, no directing, and very little else. The best thing about this flick was that I had comp passes. Oh well...........
Widows' Peak (1994)
Not a guy movie
Widow's Peak is a sugar coated predictable girls' movie that did not motivate or excite me in the least. I just sat and kind of stared at the screen until it was done. I guess it did have its moments in humor, but I'm a guy and I need more action.
