Alien³ (1992)
Different shouldn't mean bad.
This film by David Fincher is a step away from Alien and Aliens, but that doesn't mean it's a step back. The movie is different, with an almost European experience regarding the Alien saga. (Thus because most of the supporting cast is European). The atmosphere is dark and seemingly claustophobic with a quick-as-a-whip killing machine decimating the defenseless convict population.
The supporting cast is terrific with Charles Dutton as the Gothic Brute and leader of men, Dylan. Charles Dance as the medical official with the shadey past. Paul McGann plays a more psychotic and isolated loner prisoner named Golic. Ralph brown and Brian Glover hold the place together as the two men in charge of the rusty complex. Pete Postlethwaite, Philip Davis, Christopher John Fields, and namely Daniel Webb are terrific as other prisoners.
The film is suspenceful and even if one knows the ending, it is still an entertaining surprise as to who lives at the end, adding a bit of irony to the film with that aspect. I would rate this film a 4 out of 5 stars because although I did not enjoy it as much as the earlier Alien films, it was a wild and entertaining flick right up to the credits.
Jurassic Park (1993)
A summer hit but c'mon!
If anyone has read the book one can't help but be frustrated with this movie. It was made for basically the family to see for much of it with stereotypes and too gleefull endings. First of all the lawyer bothered me most. In the novel he is a typical slimebucket and wats money money money. However he (still being a jerk) ends up being a bit of a hero and to a pleasant surprise. . .lives. As for John Hammond, in the movie he was santa clause. Also, I liked Muldoon as a drunk tub of lard rather than another bold hero type to kill off valiantly. The flick had some amazing effects and a few good moments but its a 5/10 effort after reading the novel.
Lost Valley (1998)
Something to see
I have to say this movie especially caught my attention with the scenic environments and creative camera work. Mandie Gillette's role was the best throughout the film and she plyed it without flaw. Young ones should particularly enjoy the film as it has no extreme violence, language, or adult content. It was nice to see a film that could be something worth watching with children instead of being bored to death or having to tell them to leave the room. Good flick.
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Frightening, if it clicked with what you find scary
Some people could easily say this movie was not scary but that's only because different things set off the "fright" part of their brain. I found the movie terrifying and the guy next to me didn't. The part with that alien-type thing jumping at Brigette Wilson has caused me to look back whenever I walk down a dark hallway. The way it flicked at her without movie startled me immensly. Everyone should see it because it might be the most effective movie you've ever seen
Clutch (1998)
He WAS good!
The Humpliks aren't kissing ass! Tom was pretty cool after all but the movie itself was kinda stupid. Tom Green fans will enjoy it but if you don't you'll hate this. One could compare him to a Harland Williams with a major sugar-rush and a very tight jock strap.
Maniac Cop (1988)
Cool flick!
The plot was original enough and the low budget gave the film character and heart. Bruce Campbell and Richard Roundtree were awesome with of course a great supporting cast and some pretty good writing. If one likes cop flicks and horror movies then this is a great combination that shouldn't be missed!
Spaceballs (1987)
HILARIOUS!
The best Mel Brooks film I've ever seen. All the main and minor characters contribute to the endless amount of laughs in spaceballs. Even John Hurt's cameo sent me to the floor! I would reccomend this to every fan of Mel Brooks and to most people who enjoy well rounded comedy and parody.
Best of the Best 4: Without Warning (1998)
It was pretty cool...
The first two best of the best films, I feel, were the most entertaining but this fourth addition with Ernie Hudson was watchable and contained 2 really good fight scenes and one amazing shootouts! In general with it's low budget the film made due very well and I was glad I had watched it. If you liked the first two or three you will certainly enjoy the fourth.
Silver Wolf (1999)
Well done!
This was a well made movie with lots of realistic thrilling moments, good acting from Michael Biehn and Roy Schnieder, and the snowboarding scenes were amazing. The plot was original and classic at the same time. (You'd have to see it to fully understand). Of course I can't possibly leave out the wolf who was "Silver" in the film. "Silver" was the most dignified looking creature I've ever seen and it was fun watching it. Great flick!
Moontrap (1988)
After a while.........
I'm a fan of Bruce Campbell and of course I watch the movies he makes. I hated this film when I first saw it but I couldn't think of anything to say about it. It's the type of film that grows on you because it is such a "B" movie.....it's scary. In sum, I couldn't be a hypocrite and tell people never to see it after I watched it twice myself so I simply excused it as "not one of Bruce Campbell's best.......but a Bruce Campbell just the same!"
Ravenous (1999)
Classic horror.
Man, this movie sure was disgusting. Usually in movies I don't like "justified" cannibalism but this one was so gross and open with it, it seemed like a new approach. Unfortunately for Robert Carlyle, David Arquette , and the other actors in the film Jeffrey Jones (I felt) stole this movie as he does in almost every movie he's ever made. It sure was a classic horror for the nineties and further decades to come.
From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999)
Boring but gory.
An excellent waste of good ol' Bruce! Only being given a teaser role in the film was the only real thing making it worth renting. A few chuckles at the dialogue and some gory scenes can't hold this sequel to a not-so-great movie. Oh well. They should have got a few more horror-related actors in this one.
Alien Resurrection (1997)
Now that's an Alien flick!
Not the best in the Alien series but I still loved it! Great lines of dialogue, awesome casting/acting, and some of the most gruesome scenes I've seen to date. The only downfall for this film was two of the best characters played by Michael Wincott and Dan Hedaya were given roles just above cameo status and were killed off quickly. Still, they with Weaver, Ryder, Perlman, and Cruz made the film a memorable one!
Aliens (1986)
Setting the standard!
All of the main, middle, and minor characters play an entertaining role in this incredible movie. Biehn, Paxton, Goldstein, and of course, Weaver are some of the more noted people in the movie. Not often do a mastered cast and excellent flick combine so well but this time Cameron made it happen. Probably one of the best Sci-fi movies ever made.
