Better than people give it credit for.

I can understand why hard-core fans of the original AG would be disappointed in this film, but I think they might be letting their hearts get in the way. This was a very good film. The scenes with LeMat at the drag races were very authentic of the times; I know because I was there at about the same time period. The foreign-exchange girl Eva Bjorn is one of the prettiest girls I have ever seen in movies! Sure, there were some scenes that dragged on and the campus riot scenes were a little hokey but overall Lucas did a good job of being realistic, a trait missing from a lot of movies these days. You don't have to invoke suspension of disbelief to enjoy this movie.

Funny but less funny as we grow up
2 September 1999
I thought Animal House was the funniest movie I had ever seen, at the time I saw it, however. And I still like to watch it but I have a hard time watching it from credit to credit. Highlights for me Tim Matheson's courtroom (fraternity on trial) scene; the brief glimpse of a pretty girl's bosom in the car outside the bar; the scene with Pinto and the drunk girl; the dead horse; driving golf balls into the soup; I only wish that Karen Allen had a nude scene. So while I think this was a great movie, the older you get the less funny it becomes. I was 23 or so (and in my sixth year of college, yuk, yuk) when it came out. The real genius behind the screenplay was Chris Miller, who not only wrote some great stuff for National Lampoon magazine but also was the man behind the "Coo-Coo for Cocoa Puffs" slogan.

What more can I add?

When my friends invited me to see this movie during its first release, I had NO ideas what it was about at all. After viewing it I was so impressed that I took a different set of friends to see it. The chords it struck in me were so strong. I was more like the Dreyfuss character but wanted to be like John Milner. I wanted to marry Candy Clark and have Ron Howard for my best friend. My wife is not impressed by this movie and I can't see why! Lucas was able to pull some of absolutely great performances from some very young actors. This movie should be used in high school history classes for its authentic look at a way of life that seems to have vanished from America. Or has it? I think that if you look at some current small towns, American Graffiti still lives on and it's not too much different than the version presented by George Lucas.

Rent-a-Kid (1995 TV Movie)
Sappy but it grows on you.

Obnoxious Yuppies rent three kids to see if they will like being parents. Suspension of disbelief is required, of course, because in real life there is a shortage of non-dysfunctional kids to be adopted. The dad is a real jerk and the mom is very likeable. Good for kids.

One of the best lesser-known films
9 April 1999
While serious film buffs are probably familiar with this movie, most people are not. For some reason it hit a strange cord with me (or it should it be chord?) I enjoyed the acting in it,. and Elizabeth Taylor looked absolutely exquisite. Brando's character was extremely weird and I really enjoyed his performance, along with Brian Keith's.

Lucas (1986)
Good but not a classic
30 March 1999
Just watched it on Disney and thought it good. Too bad Kerri Green didn't do more. As an adult who spends a lot of time at our local high school, I felt the movie was, as most are, unrealistic about high school life. The football scenes were ridiculous . . . but then again most movies require a suspension of disbelief in order to be tolerated. Dave Letterman has been making fun of the Corey's lately and the one in this movie was on last week for a cameo. Has Courtney had a nose job since this movie? That's all.
