Masked and Anonymous (2003)
Excruciating
From the first moments of this film, I felt like I had fallen down Alice's hole into a world of non-sensible idiots. What was this movie other than cheap pandering to Bob Dylan's enigmatic songs? Whose idea was it to make a movie that no one would understand let alone the actors that are crammed into it? Don't get me wrong. I like ensemble movies--seeing people who don't normally act together show up in unique situations is great. Usually.
But not in this movie. And the movie just kept going. I'm sorry to be ragging on it so much but for the first time in my life I seriously felt like walking out of the theater except my friends seemed to enjoy it. They actually wanted to talk about it after it was over. WHY? If you want a positive review--ask one of them. I just thought it was the "Bob Dylan and Friends" show, trying to pick apart the republicans running our country and just trying to hard to be witty. I don't want my money back. I want those 112 minutes back.
Babes in Toyland (1986)
Hey, it wasn't that bad...
I remember seeing this movie when I was six, on tv and never forgetting it. Ok, it sucked, but when you're a kid it was great. And Keanu was really hot. I remember having a crush on him, even when I was that young. I was watching the FOX Family Channel tonight and it came on. Man, it's been years since I had even thought about it even though the Cincinnati song goes through my head all the time. I wish I could buy it just so I could have it. We taped it off of tv onto a Beta tape but we didn't get all of the movie--we taped over the beginning and it cut off the end...so I'm doomed never to see it again. Oh, well. I'll never forget little Drew or hottie Keanu. See it if you can, it's not that bad.
Back to the Future (1985)
Best 80s movie ever. period.
This is truly one of, if not the best 80s movie. And it's impossible to buy it until next year when they re-release it. Michael J. Fox is to die for and the special effects are crude yet when you look at how far we've come in such a short time, they aren't that bad. The story is great and you'll never forget the "space time continuum" or the "flux capaciter." I have the whole thing memorized, music and all. It's my favorite movie, and will be your's.
Dazed and Confused (1993)
Universal Themes Rage On
Growing up in a small town, there are obvious groups which form: the slacker, the stoners, the loners, the booziers, the whores, the nerds, the cool kids, and everyone who never fit into a category. This is the movie for all of them. Set on the last day of school 1976, the teens (many of whom have gone on to promising and fruitful careers: Ben Affleck, Adam Goldberg, Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger just to name a few) show how one day in your life can change everything. Watching this movie, whether you grew up in the 70s, 80s or 90s or whenever, you can see how life really hasn't changed. I'm sure we all wondered why our teenage years are said to be the best. This movie show why we loved growing up and why we hated it.
