Election (1999)
Hilarious!
21 November 1999
This movie had to be the sickest film that I had seen in quite some time- AND I LOVED IT!! Matthew Broderick is no longer the good guy next door. He was seen as a scheming, pathetic loser. This is definitely a breakout role for not only him, but for Reese Witherspoon. She was good in the low-budgeted "Highway" (or was it "Freeway"?) but she was even better in this film. And I think the scariest fact of all is that we have all known characters exactly like the ones in the movie. Talk about close to reality!

Cool as Ice (1991)
Whoa...
7 September 1999
I'm glad I didn't pay to see this "film". Was it funny on purpose? It must have been....yeah,that's right,it was released as a joke. Can I give the film a negative rating? IMDB, is that allowed? -**** (negative 4 stars) And furthermore, who was the crackhead that released this picture? Wouldn't it be easier to get all of your teeth pulled out without novacaine? After all, it would be less painful. I hope my questions are answered some day.

I've seen better.......

This movie can be summed up in the words of my favorite cartoon character, Bart Simpson: " I don't know if it is physically possible, but this show both blows and sucks at the same time."

The Best
6 September 1999
This movie was simply the best gangster movie ever made. Cagney managed to outdo his performance in "Angels with Dirty Faces". If you remember,in that movie the final scene took place at the electric chair in prison. Cagney, brave 'til the end, was asked by his childhood friend (a priest) not to act so brave, because the kids back in the 'hood would look up to him as a hero. So Cagney obliges and screams for mercy at the end -a classic finish that no one at that time thought could ever be topped. But Cagney managed to a decade later in "White Heat" with the famous "On top of the world, Ma!" finish. In the end, Cagney was corned by the coppers in an oil refinery. They told him to give up and turn himself in. But Cagney refused-tough guy to the end. Rather than turn himself in, he not only blew himself up, but the entire oil refinery! The ending was rather symbolic-that was his last gangster film.

Masterpiece
6 September 1999
This movie is simply a masterpiece, a classic story of two kids who grow up on different sides of the law. Cagney, as Rocky, gave his best performance, only to outdo himself a decade later in the 1949 film noir classic "White Heat". The execution scene at the end is classic, the second best movie ending of all time. Of course the best ending was from, once again, "White Heat" where he blows himself up,along with an oil refinery. "I'm on top of the world,Ma!!!!"

Twist
9 August 1999
It's a nice little film with a twist on culture clash. Julian Lee, an Asian raised by African-Americans, happens to be more black than his African American girlfriend from the suburbs. May, a Chinese exchange student, learns that African Americans are not what they appear to be in the movies. Interesting fare.

Duel (1971 TV Movie)
This was a TV movie?
12 June 1999
This film kept me biting my nails from the first time Dennis Weaver met the crazy truck driver on that lonely stretch of desert road. This film was simply a masterpiece. It was suspenseful AND scary, and the only blood we see in when Dennis Weaver bites his lip in fear. It was a stroke of genius not letting the viewers see the truck driver. He's probably representing some unseen force that has the potential to push all of us over the edge. I don't know if Spielberg was trying to convey some message or not, but I don't care. It was plain good entertainment.

Tense
31 May 1999
Classic Cold war drama, better than "Fail Safe". Starring Richard Widmark as a determined and iron willed Captain and Sidney Poitier as a journalist assigned to the ship to report on a "normal" cruise, which turns out to be the very opposite. It's not only about a clash of countries, (USA and USSR) but a clash of wills: The captain and the reporter, the captain and the new medical officer, and the captain and the NATO attache. It's a must see for anyone who lived through or is studying that tense segment of history known as the Cold War.

The Sopranos (1999–2007)
Life in the Soprano family
1 April 1999
I LOVE this show! It's violent, but funny at times, and that makes for a pretty nice balance. It's the story of Tony Soprano, a mob boss in Northern New Jersey. He and his family are trying to fit into the typical suburban lifestyle, but in Tony's line of work, it's impossible. Tony's struggles within himself results in him seeing a psychiatrist. Between his family, his job, and his myriad of girlfriends, He is seriously about to lose it! And can he get comfort from dear old Mom? Nope. His own mother and uncle contract to put a hit on him! This is good stuff!
