The Last House on the Left (1972)
the worst film i've ever seen
To be blunt, this is the worst piece of crap I've ever been privy to. I've heard it described at traumatizing, shocking, emotionally disturbing, etc., etc. It is none of these. It is just sick. And is no more than your run-of-the-mill exploitation film.
To think that this film comes from the brilliant mind of Wes Craven shocks me. Even more shocking is the fact that Roger Ebert gave it four stars and proclaimed it one of the best films of the year. That is only what is truly shocking about this so called "film."
The Faculty (1998)
guaranteed to jack you up
"The Faculty" is guaranteed to jack you up. Brilliantly written by Kevin Williamson and exuberantly directed by Robert Rodriguez, "The Faculty" is a kick ass, explosive, edge-of-your-seat thriller that has an explosive climax and remarkable special effects work. What "Scream" did for the horror genre, this will do the same for sci-fi.
American Buffalo (1996)
Mamet outdoes himself this time
Adaption of Mamet play is even better on screen. Dustin Hoffman gives the best performance of his career as the protagonist Teach. Dennis Franz is equally good in his first leading role as Donnie, owner of an antique shop. One hell of a well acted movie with great cast, great script, great direction, great plot, great music, and great location. What else could a intelligent moviegoer ask for?
Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
A reason while more musicals should be made
From start to finish, "Little Shop of Horrors" is a hilarious, off-beat, good natured delight. Even though it features things like a blood sucking murderous plant, a S&M dentist, spousal abuse, a masochist and nitrous-oxide addicts, it cannot hide its good nature. The songs are great! It is worth seeing the film for about the 35 minute mark where Steve Martin appears in his best role as a S&M dentist. And Rick Moranis is a delight! And Audrey 2 is really an achievement in special effects. That plant is as memorable as E.T. or Forest Gump. The best musical ever made and the reason why more musicals should be made!
