The Ice Storm (1997)
actors? what actors?
I disagree with some of the comments posted here by others. I have just seen this film and I thought it was very poorly done. I didn't think any of the acting was stupendous, it was far too subtle, or not there at all in most cases. The Director did not allow any of the actors to fully express anything, his concentration on subtlety left the movie bare, with little to involve the audience. The writing was also lackluster, although I believe the novel to be much better. This a classic case of a film full of talented people that are restricted to the point of being incapable of using those talents by the director. In addition the score does little to reinforce either the action of the film or the nature of its' themes. The photography and overall design tried to mimic that of not only the 70s (where it was set) but the pop films of that era. Unfortunately I believe that this alienates viewers from the 90s. Particularly the terrible photography ruined a most important aspect of the film. There were several potentially amazing scenes when Mikey Carver (Elijah Wood) is wandering around in the ice storm. The photography does little to enhance the storm's effect on nature.
In summary, this film is hardly worth the $3 i paid to rent it. If your truly bored and have seen all the other terrible movies at the video-store, rent this one.
The Rosie O'Donnell Show (1996)
touching fun
Ok-Rosie is certainly not an excellent actress-thats why BU kicked her out-but she makes this show so wonderful it hurts. She is a beautiful woman with a truly beautiful soul. She has the only creative and interesting talk show on TV today. I just love the way she plays with things in her hands while she talks to everyone, and the way everyone just loves her. She also has regular people on, and not to make fun of them like Letterman would. She also has Broadway shows all the time on, getting these poor people a little recognition. She really cares about people, all people, because she is a real person, unlike most people on TV. If you ever read this Rosie, thank you for what you have done for us :)
