Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny (1972)
Amazing...
OK, it's official: This is the most comprehensive movie database ever assembled. I have been trying to think of a movie -- ANY movie -- that I have seen that is not in this database. "Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny" I saw as a 7-year-old at a Saturday matinee (in what was undoubtedly a very short run at the theaters). Since then, I have never talked to anyone who has ever heard of this movie, and I have never seen it in any movie library or previous database. I tip my hat to IMDB -- amazing!
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Overrated
It's not a bad film. It's just derivative and melodramatic. It borrows from "Cool Hand Luke," a superior film. It relishes its significance too much. It's a bit smug. Morgan Freeman's voiceover is a clumsy narrative device. I don't know -- I just know for sure it's not one of "the best films of all time." Not even close.
The Bikini Carwash Company (1992)
Unrated version has its moments
This is one of those videos where you have to be VERY careful to get the unrated version to get your money's worth. Unrated has lots of full-frontal nudity -- including some entertaining, music-video style dance sequences. Also a fairly steamy beach sex scene. These have all been excised from the R-rated version. Just a word to the wise.
The Further Adventures of Tennessee Buck (1988)
T+A=ZZZZZZ
It's "Indiana Jones" meets "Bikini Car Wash Company," or something like that. Doesn't do either well enough to recommend -- except for a single memorable scene in which Shower is rubbed down by the natives (a la Bo Derek in her Tarzan bomb) and then "taken" by the chief.
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
Classic 70s
One of the best films ever made -- one that will have you longing for the personal filmmaking that characterized the pre-Star Wars 70s. The single best performance by Al Pacino. Sidney Lumet's greatest achievement. See it.
