Entrapment (1999)
An average movie until the ending
Entrapment is a very predictable movie, but somehow it is hard to hate it. Even though it seems to want to be hated because the movie is sometimes really irritating. When it comes to the romance between Connery and Zeta-Jones I can only agree with the majority; it's totally unbelievable. But hey, the movie is still OK. Well that's til the ending of course, because of all the cheesy endings I've seen, this has to be among the cheesiest, if not THE cheesiest I've ever seen. I won't tell you what happens, because even though the ending is horrible, I would never spoil an ending. What I can say however is that the screenwriter(s) have tried to do refreshing ending but failed big time.
Summed up, it's an average movie until the ending drags it down to somewhere between awful and bad.
Clerks (1994)
An instant comedy classic
Although the movie primarily consists of small jokes and gags, they are cleverly and stylishly bound together to a movie that will send you to laughing heaven. Kevin Smith is very admirable, not least because of his brave use of black and white. It made the movie incredibly stylish. Sadly there are many naive youngsters, who lose interest for movies which are in black and white. As for the jokes and gags referred to above, they are usually really great, with a few exceptions. But hey, that's still way better than your average comedy. There are some favorite scenes, but none of which I will give away here. The language used in the movie gained an R-rating in the Us and an 18-rating in the UK. But for some reason, in my home-country Sweden, it has been given a "fit for all ages"-rating. I really can't understand how that happened.
The Making of '...And God Spoke' (1993)
Deserves more recognition from the public
While it is absolutely true that God Spoke isn't as superb as This is Spinal Tap (1984), it is still a movie that will get you laughing uncontrollably. If you've seen Tap, this is about the same, except the rock group has been replaced with a director and a producer. See the two mens' previous movie-experiences for the best bits in the film. It is very sad that this movie hasn't had a bigger audience than it has had.
The Princess Bride (1987)
For kids
Forget everything you've read about this being compelling to all ages. This is first and foremost a movie for kids. To me the movie was quite a disappointment, considering the rating it has been given by the users of IMDb. I found it childish but I can't truthfully say that I was ever really bored. I had expected more laughs, from the man who made the outstanding "This is Spinal Tap" (1984) but had to settle for perhaps about three or four funny moments. (The inconceivable bit actually being very funny.) What bugs me the most is that the movie was aimed (perhaps unintendedly) at children because of the scenes involving the little sick punk Fred Savage and his grandpa Peter Falk (the actual storyteller). The scenes are so awfully disgusting in the "cute" kind of way to anyone above ten.
Keep that in mind.
Aliens (1986)
One of the absolute best movies ever made
The second film about Ripley, is undeniably the best of the four films made. The first one, will always be a classic, but the stroke of art is James Cameron's Aliens (1986). Everything is perfect, the characters, the setting, the build-up, the cast, the direction, the effects, the action, and first and foremost; the impact. After seeing the movie over and over again, you always want more. Even the special edition wasn't long enough. You curse the awful third movie from preventing the magic and impact from Aliens from ever returning. No brighter did it look when the fourth movie came along, but at least this time it was a watchable film.
Of course we all know that the reason that the movie was as superb as it was, is because it's director's name is James Cameron. The man has proved himself a superb action director, and hopefully we will see more sci-fi movies from him, as they seem to be his best movies. (While Titanic is great entertainment, it doesn't even compare to Aliens or Terminator.)
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
The funniest movie ever made.
You can look all you want, but finding a funnier movie than this, is as of yet impossible. I could write pages, about all the best jokes in the movie, but I won't because either you've already seen it, or you haven't, in which case I do not want to spoil anything. If you want it spoiled anyway, just read the other comments, or even better; read the quotes posted here at the IMDb. The final point is: As of this day, no film has ever captured pure comedy, like this one has.
