Yellowjackets (2021– )

It started out fairly well
20 December 2021
But it has slowly degenerated as the episodes have worn on. If not for Christina Ricci's character I would have tuned out a long time ago. She is the only thing likely to keep me to the finish line. By episode 5 it becomes an angst filled whine fest.

Outstanding new series
19 June 2007
The first episode was great, the second brilliant. If you are a fan of HBO series, then I would say this is a mix of Carnivale and Deadwood. When I heard that David Milch had a new series coming out on HBO I was able to curb my mourning for Deadwood! As in Deadwood, the cast is composed almost entirely of brilliant character actors (with two former TV stars, Luke Perry and Ed O'Neill). The writing is top-notch and it is set in Southern California in a surfing town near the Mexican border.

Honestly I always liked the sopranos, but always believed that Deadwood was a superior series. Well JFC is striking me as better than Deadwood....what does that say for it?

***After seeing a few more episodes I feel that JFC lost it's way but the last few have looked better***

Also regarding the question from one poster, the opening song is Johnny Appleseed by the (sorely missed) Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.

Oh Boy...
5 June 2004
I should have known better. The box in the video store read "Hailed by critics as a masterpiece in its genre", yet there were no specific critical reviews. Well if its genre is awful low-budget senseless horror films produced in Spokane WA then bravo!

I really can't even begin to describe the plot holes and virtually incomprehensible actions by most every principal involved. However, if you are a fan of bad acting, then give it a shot. Be forewarned though, that the movie doesn't fall into the "so bad that its good" category since it is also a bit tasteless. Can anyone explain just what happened at the end?

Good luck. You'r going to need it!

Not bad...
12 January 2004
This movie isn't bad. I suppose that I am a sucker for Shannon Elizabeth however! It is a decent film with a decent premise. Matthew Lillard and F. Murray Abraham are really hammy, but that is to be expected.

A decent horror film if you have a few hours to kill.

Ouch....
5 December 2003
How could anyone rate this garbage above a 3 out of 10? The one-trick pony jokes made me feel as if someone were beating me in the head with an obvious stick.

Carlyle and Jackson need to become a little less enamored with paychecks and actually read the script beforehand.

Terrible...

What?!?!
7 August 2003
How in the world could so many people here have liked this film? There were only about 3 genuine laughs in the entire film! Given the brilliance of Spinal Tap, guffman and best in show it makes it all the worst.

Eugene Levy's character is rather annoying after about 5 minutes and Ed Begley Jr's spot is a complete and utter waste.

The best laugh of the film is Lori Boner's story of how she met her husband.

If you are a diehard Guest fan (like I am) you're going to at least rent it on video, but be forewarned!

A below average
16 March 2000
effort at best... what starts out as a marginally interesting concept, turns into a crashing bore after an hour or so... denzel washington is his usual 2-D cut-out character, but has a decent supporting cast... how anyone could be surprised by this derivative hollywood schlock is beyond me....

As you have heard...
1 January 2000
this is not a good film...after catching it on cable I must agree... However it is not as awful as it is made out in critics' circles... there are a few good laughs, the sets are pretty cool, if you are a Farley fan see it for a few laughs... the problem was a bit more with matthew perry...perry is not a bad presence for TV, but cannot handle a lead role in a film... eugene levy was wasted

a jumbled mess...
20 November 1999
this was quite a jumbled mess of a film... hershey is cast as a much too young actress, and mazur is completely wasted... this film has no idea of where it wants to go, and is turgid and confusing in many parts... clarence williams is wasted too... too bad because the cast is interesting enuff

good film
20 November 1999
this film really crept up on me... the only reason I rented it (sorry but the general subject matter is one that I usually stay away from because of the fear of sensationalism0 is after reading an article stating that it took Duvall many years to get this made... absolutely a brilliant portrayal...supporting cast is find and believable... this film will stay with you for a while particularly if you have ever lived in the southeastern US...

I couldn't unconditionally recommend it for everyone, but if you are patient through the first half you will be rewarded...

brilliant
20 November 1999
Christopher Walken is in the top 3 of my favorite actors and the dead zone may be my fave (not the best mind you, but my personal fave)... Walken gives a brilliant and believable performance in easily the best King adapted film... atmospheric and frightening it has an incredible supporting cast... Anthony Zerbe and Tom Skerritt are excellent! An absolute must see...

strange strange film
17 November 1999
The first time I saw this film I disliked it... After seeing it approximately 1/2 dozen more times on cable (must have gotten a real deal on it)... it grew on me more and more, almost to cult status with myself and friends... if you were able to surgically extract tucker from the film I would call it very good, and besides can holm and oldman ever be bad in anything?

Ouch
17 November 1999
This one hit a little too close to home! Great and realistic Portland backdrops, and a wonderful appearance by william burroughs... Remar is solid (as usual) as a cop, and dillon excels in the title role... "TV babies" has been part of my vernacular after seeing this film... highly recommended!!!

The Ice Storm (1997)
Very well done...
6 November 1999
This film really crept up on me, I had heard a few things about it but was largely a blank slate beforehand... I was riveted the entire time, outstanding and quite believable performances by Allen and Weaver (brilliant, certainly the best work of Allen's career)... Reading some of the other reviews here, I'm puzzled... Why is it a prerequisite to like all of the characters to enjoy a film? I guess you should have known it wasn't Pleasantville before you rented it...

Great start
5 November 1999
Great start but 2nd half is muddled at best... What was an interesting beginning with decen character development becomes a silly mish-mash... Robert Carlyle is almost wasted with a 2-D "psycho" character, Pearce sleepwalks through his performance, David Arquette is on hand for his irrelevance and poor jeffrey jones has to carry what he can (and a great job he does too)... Worth seeing for Jones, beautiful scenery a good start and that is about it...

Fishburne, Walken incredible
19 October 1999
Absolutely a brilliant performance by Laurence Fishburne, and Walken is his usual solid, creepy self as well. Caruso and Snipes play relatively 2D cops, but it works well and is vital with walken and fishburne on the screen... riveting!

Outstanding Cast!
4 September 1999
I highly recommend Ronin. I saw the film solely on the strength of the cast (deniro, sean bean, jean reno), and was very pleased. The plot is quite intricate and it tends to blow away a lot of boundaries. There are a few plot holes but overall holds up very well.

Good work
4 September 1999
I do not understand reviews that consistently rank this film as one of Hammer's weaker efforts... I think that it is one of the strongest films in the Dracula series (many of which are visually excellent but greatly predictable)... many genuinely eerie scenes and overall solid acting...
