Fight Club (1999)
Don't watch it if you hate fighting!
My husband talked me into this after time and time again saying "I don't want to watch a movie about fighting", I guess he thought the beginning was better than I thought it was...
I guess if you get kicks out of people whose lives are completely the dumps then watch this movie. It's only mildly amusing before the fighting if you're a mentally stable person.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (1997)
Great concept, pretty good playing
This was almost a 10/10 game. The only problem being far too much to do between save points.
I loved this game, but then I loved Abe's Exoddus more - because of QUICKSAVE - didn't have to repeat so much stuff when I goofed...
But still I'm replaying Abe's Oddysee after playing it and Exoddus twice each, and I still really like it.
Hey, can anyone give me a clue of other games that so nicely combine action and puzzles in this way?
Sex and the City (1998)
Not a good role model, but a GREAT joke set-up
I was really surprised to see how many comments there were based on these characters being role models. Maybe they are supposed to be successful in their careers, but socially they're more on the loser side - and this really sets things up quite well for some really funny scenes and episodes.
So if you're looking for a show that's more interested in being funny than preaching family values, then this is for you!
Slacker (1990)
Self indulgent movie industry garbage
This movie roams like it's said to. But frankly if it was at ALL funny, it must have been an insiders joke. I saw this as yet another film only people in the film industry would really get. BORING.
Can't recommend this for average people.
Goodbye, Columbus (1969)
Great enjoyable humorous movie
This movie smacked of the era it was made in ('69) - but instead of that poorly dating it, it got a few more laughs because of it.
Young couple meet, appear to fall in love, well SHE falls in love with HIM at least. They go through a bit of goofiness.
Perfect for when you want an entertaining relaxing film to watch.
Sid and Nancy (1986)
Awfully true depiction of a HORRID life
I hated this movie because I'm not a junkie, I don't live in the gutter and I'm not violent. Being this way I don't particularly enjoy seeing a realistic portrayal of a life of a person who is a violent junkie living a gutter-like life.
I rated this a one because I personally believe movies should be entertaining unless they're rated educational, and I don't think this is.
However based on what you find entertaining you may feel extremely different about this film. It was well done.
The Impostors (1998)
Too much stage-acting for me
I think they were trying for a bit of a Laurel & Hardy and "old movie" approach.
They didn't do a terrible job on that but it was quite focused on theater, including older Shakespeare stuff and all.
I think this would appeal much more to people who are really into theater more than the average movie-going person. Still, not BAD for the average person, just too blah due to not "getting" it all.
Night on Earth (1991)
Five great shorts
The five locations filmed on this 'Night on Earth' are five separate shorts. The common theme of middle of the night cab drivers is what brings them together. They were all enjoyable, but my favorite was the Rome one. I would have hardly thought something in subtitles could've been so funny, but it sure was. The Helsinki one was a very good 'tragedy of human life' piece. They all did a great job commenting on the variety of human characters out there in this world.
Note that three of the five segments are not in English. I hope that doesn't turn people off too badly, as they'd really be missing out then.
The Life and Loves of a She-Devil (1986)
Great mini-series about personal misery, revenge and triumph
Saw this on A&E back in '92 or so, too bad I didn't tape it. It was excellent. The more popular She-Devil movie is a horrible travesty of this work.
The main character is a woman who is extremely unappreciated by her husband. She is so demoralized by him that she exacts a increasingly insidious revenge.
Excellent because it is so believable, accurate portrayal of the darker side of human emotions.
If you notice this will be on cable soon, please email me and let me know what channel!!

Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Pretty good movie, horrid pop music
If you hated the pop music in the early 80's as much as I did, then avoid this movie. Although it's a pretty good movie, it's not enough to make up for the music if you hate it. Of course, if you loved early 80's music, then see this movie.

Seconds (1966)
Good concept, not well developed
This was a really intriguing concept for a movie - a man offered to start his life again with his new identity, and the new one pulled out of his old memories of what he wanted to be.
So how come some stuffy banker would want to be an artist when he doesn't even have the talent? I was too obvious that the man's new role was so against who he really was, that it couldn't have been what he really wanted.
I think it'd have been a better movie if his second chance in life was something really natural and good for him, but he still got confused in the conflicts between his old and new life, as he did in this one.
I had to fast forward through some really obnoxiously loud and annoying scenes of his new life in the middle, otherwise it was pretty enjoyable. Worth taping rather than just watching so you CAN fast forward though.
Kicking and Screaming (1995)
Good for young college grads, but not for others!!
I could hardly stand this movie at all, because I saw it when I was too old - 33. I think if I had seen it between 22-25, I would have loved it.
If you can relate to the 'still idealistic', 'hopes fading', 'aimless direction to where you want your life to be' problems of young adulthood, then see this. If you're so over those feelings (like I am) and would just think "Just grow up!" about people like that, then AVOID this movie.
Lolita (1962)
Only for SOME people
I think some people might be more intrigued about an older man marrying a woman only to be around her sexy teenage daughter. But the daughter is such a complete annoying brat that if this doesn't turn you on, the movie will probably not be worth it.

Sleeper (1973)
Great Sci-Fi Slapstick!
I'm suprised the vote isn't higher for this movie - I guess it shows that not everybody enjoys slapstick. Woody Allen has once again done a great slapstick job in this movie, though perhaps not quite as perfect as in "Take the Money and Run".
If you like slapstick and Woody Allen, you'll love this.
