Do Not Disturb (1999)
Brilliant & hilarious Black Comedy
Most commentators completely missed the point of this film. It is an ingenious black comedy, in the vein of HOME ALONE. The Dutch reviewers might be surprised to learn that the film is being marketed in Video Stores in the USA with a contest. You fill out a form, and the winner gets a fully paid vacation in Amsterdam! By the end of the film, the action is pure slapstick, and it is pretty amusing to read some reviewer comment that the film is not realistic. Rent it! Laugh out loud at the most sneaky, unexpected laugh fest of the past ten years!
Sofi (1968)
Exceptional and unique one character film
Tom Troupe is riveting in this one character film based on Nicolai Gogol's DIARY OF A MADMAN. The film manages an almost impossible feat...to make a 90 minute drama with one character work as a viable motion picture. The cinematography by Al Taylor is also incredible. The camera weaves in and out of the shadows and uses every inch of the claustrophobic set to perfection. A rare and personal achievement for actor and playwright Troupe. A landmark film that deserves rediscovery
The Unnamable (1988)
Film well rooted in Lovecraft's story
Many Lovecraft films stray far from the original Lovecraft story. THE UNNAMEABLE is only seven pages long, but the screenwriters crafted their story very well using the source material for the story. As for film gore, that is just "fluff" for modern horror film fans who seldom notice the underlying themes and concepts of the story. This is a good attempt to use original Lovecraft material and update to a modern setting without violating the concept of the original story.
