... there is no words

What can I say about this movie? The first time I saw it, I was a child and I like it because it has swords, action and stuff. You know, you didn't expect anything more from movies when you are young, but the years passed, and some day I watched the movie again in tv. When it ended, i realized it was better than I remembered. This time I saw a lot of more things: the great secondary actors, the great music and the great story. Now I'm 23 and i consider this film a truly masterpiece, because it tolds a story about hate, revenge and fight, but also about love, friendship and sadness. Along the story, Conan it's searching for the man who killed his family, but he's also searching another thing, more important to him, the secret of steel. I think it's a very important part of the movie when Conan's father talks him about the secret of the steel, and he needs to confront Thulsa Doom to find it out. To those who didn't like the movie, please try something. If you see the movie some other time, heard to every word of the dialogs (there are few but they worth it), listen with three ears to the music of Basic Poledouris, look at the faces of the characters (they say it all by themselves), and do all this at a time and FEEL the movie, because you cannot just stare at this movie, you have to feel it deep under your skin and your heart. That's all i have to say about Conan the Barbarian. Love it or die trying it.

Two wonderful hours of cinema
24 August 2000
Warning: Spoilers
"If you've not seen this film yet, please don't read more and go to the nearest cinema". Something like that was what I read in another imdb user post. He/She was right, and i must say: thank you ;). Besides the names of the two main actors and the movie title i don't know anything about the plot. Without preconceived ideas, i started to watch the film, letting Atom Egoyan unfold along two hours the characters, masterly played by Bob Hoskins and Elaine Cassidy. Like (spoiler) Felicia's character says at the end, behind the killer Hilditch there was a soul, a good man, like any other. He killed all those *lost* girls, because he wanted to help them, to protect them. He didn't want all them to continue living a loveless live, a sad live, a lonely life, like him. Cause like we see in all the videos of Gala's (his mother) program he hadn't nothing. Yes, he lived well, but he has no love from his mother. The only thing he obtained from her was recipes and food. And that's the only thing he has now. A good thing in Egoyan films, is that he tolds a story, but leaving a lot of questions without response. That's what a lot of people hates, and after seeing this movie, instead looking for answers, the just say: "what this f****** movie is about? it doesn't tell anything." If you don't like to think after watching a film, then this it's not for you. Today i've seen this wonderful movie, and after a 8 hours o so, i'm still thinking in a lot of thinks, like the *ghost* wife of Hilditch, his love/hate relation with food,or why he looks for Felicia's boyfriend if he didn't intend to say nothing to her. But all this wouldn't have being posibble without Bob/Elaine. Two great actors, who make their best roles in this film.

One of the best movies I've ever seen
5 August 2000
When I today finished watching this movie, all my senses was stunned. Oh my god, what a movie!!. It longs three hours, but I didn't noticed, because I can't take my eyes off of every frame of the movie. Terrence Malick get us into the minds of the every soldier, even japs ones. He show us, not only the death and horror of war, but also the life who surrounds the soldiers and the hope of a better future. Where the hate comes from? Where the love come from? I'm not realized until today how much "Saving Private Ryan" sucks. That movie told _nothing_ about real war. Just and start scene and an end scene to show how "good" Spielberg is filming a battle, and in the middle, a lot of nonsense garbage. "The Thin Red Line" is really a war movie, i mean, THE war movie. No american propaganda, but a movie about the people who fighted in the WWII, their thoughts, hopes and lifes. All those things masterly shaped.

David Fincher's best work
17 January 2000
What i really like from this movie is the non-conventional end. Like Morgan Freeman's character says at then end : "Hemingway said 'World is a fine place, what is worth fighting for'. I agree with the second part" It's a dark movie, placed in all-day-raining city. A grey city, where people has few hope. A city where people goes mad, just like John Doe, killing without an apparent reason, thinking he's doing a favor to the rest. Some people don't like the movie because they said the whole movie, and its end, it's too cruel, too crude. I don't think so. It's damn real. That's what they're afraid from, reality. They don't want see the world just like it is, cause can't bear it. Remember this: World is not a fine place, but that isn't a reason to give up.

Great Results
2 January 2000
I've not read the novel by Charles Dickens, and didn't know anything about the film's plot. Maybe the book is better, but I loved this movie. Almost two hours that looked like 30 minutes to me. Great characters and a great direction. Not to forget Robert De Niro role as the escaped prisoner. Adapting a novel to nowadays is always a dangerous work, you can loose some important parts in the process. Reading some other comments, I think Alfonso Cuaron did a good job, like placing Finn birth's place in a humble fishing village in the florida gulf. Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Bancroft did a great playing, Ethan Hawke not too bad. Ah! And the children Finn/Estella did also a good work. A movie is worth to see. Don't miss it.
