Severe Injuries (2003)
Funny stuff!
"Severe Injuries" pretty much establishes Amy Lynn Best as a totally professional (and clever) force in the Low-budget film world. Charlie Fleming has his best role as the inept would-be killer, and Jasi Cotton Lanier's bits are very funny.
Film is also top notch in all technical aspects and contains a surprise appearance by an actress in what could be one of her most memorable appearances ever.
Like "The Resurrection Game", this Happy Cloud Productions effort has a lot of surprise touches. Indie Film legend Debbie Rochon even shows up! Think the DVD may come with the short subject "Were-Girll" with Jasi Cotton Lanier, which was Best' first effort and also very funny.
Rectuma (2003)
Pirromount's funniest
Attended advance preview of "Rectuma" and had a great time. Worth it just to see the "Jodie Foster" impersonation. Lead actor reminds one of Gene Wilder in his 1970's films, very good performances by all, including some veteran Pirromount players.
Weregrrl (2002)
Clever film with funny performance by Jasi Lanier
Lots of funny bits in this twisted take on the werewolf legends. Jasi is at her best here, with a sly performance as the "victim". Director Amy Lynn Best also supplies some brief buy very effective bits by Debbie Rochon, who is also in good comedy form here.
Abomination: The Evilmaker II (2003)
a nice DVD presentation for low-budget fans
"Abomination: EvilMaker 2" is an adequate sequel to the original without going over the same ground. The new lead is not as powerful as the original (Stephanie Beaton), but she comes across as so sincere and good-natured that she does the job. Big surprise is Jon Wilmot, who underplays the role of the disgraced ex-cop successfully. It is indeed Felicia Pandolfi, back in form as one of our favorite "b-movie goth chicks" who brings the most energy. Musical score is above average for an effort of this type. DVD also has some very good features about the making of the film, and the film makers, to their credit, point out several obstacles they had to try to overcome to finish the film. The last 20:00 does contain some good twist and turns, one or two that I could not predict. Whereas the b-movie horror makers in California are more or less a heartless machine (I've never liked the films of Fred Ray, Winorski or their ilk), I would prefer renting or buying a horror film done for the right reasons, like this one. It took a second viewing to spot the subtle color scheme whenever sister Racheal appears. Here's hoping there will be a nice wrap up, completing a memorable low-budget trilogy.
Plan 10 from Outer Space (1995)
What an indie film should be
Don't let the "exploit" title of the this production fool you. It's funny and a times, even charming. Stefene Russell is quite a find, and the film has a nice, quirky feel about it. Has a lot of cute comments and satire about Utah.
