Travelers (2016)
Another take on the conundrum of Time Travel
Personally I enjoy exploring the issues of Time Travel. There are many shows on this season each with their own perspective. Travelers is unique in that the show's time period is fixed in the present though the characters come from the future. There is only a hint of what the future will bring, but the characters definitely think that some tinkering is required.
"The Director" is a phantom pulling the strings though it does not bode well that this person uses/abuses children to pass time critical messages to the team. We are left to wonder if our supposed benefactors are actually working toward an improved version of time to come.
Though the characters are still developing, several have stood out with their very strong and personal performances dealing with real world issues. As a consumer, I appreciate an actor that can have me empathise with their scripted issues and objectives. There are several on this team that resonate the qualities that stimulate audiences to return.
Not a high budget effort but an interesting and engaging twist on what often can be a confusing and self-destructing topic. The first season, along with the support of the producers will give a good indication of this product's "future".
Rewind (2013)
Sucker for Time Travel stories
*** POSSIBLE spoiler concerning events at end of first show. ***
The Time Machine, Time Tunnel, Quantum Leap, 7 Days, Enterprise, just to name a few. I am a sucker for time travel stories and thoroughly enjoyed REWIND.
The premise may not be the most logical, but I would hope most viewers would understand that this is about people and events, NOT about the method. There is no such technology (so we are to believe) so does it really matter how time travel is initiated? The characters (especially NASA) are solid and a good mix (though the General needs a little more military "polish" to be believable.)
There are enough elements in REWIND to make an excellent series though I would have thought that almost all viewers would twig to the fact that the military gentleman preparing for the cold environment window MUST have come from some future time specifically for this event.
Really looking forward to the next installment and hopefully, a long running series.
Mission: Impossible III (2006)
Good entertainment
For the action/thriller/explosion type individual, this movie has a "credible" story line and enough tension to keep viewers on the edge of their seats for the entire movie. I quite enjoyed the entire show. Tom Cruise is quite up to snuff once more for "hard" action and the visual conflict effects are quite stunning. Would have liked to see more "gadgets" but, I suppose a story line is mandatory. Now waiting anxiously for the sequel, including Michelle Monaghan who is an enticing and believable actress. With luck, this franchise will evolve and continue to offer solid entertainment value and new "twists" in this genre.
American Beauty (1999)
Of passing interest only
To enjoy this movie, you need to identify with one of the characters. If you don't fall into one of the four overly defined typecasts, the movie becomes a conglomerate of self-centred fixations. If, however, you are undergoing or anticipating undergoing a mid-life crisis, by all means, go see the show!
