According to Jim (2001–2009)
I "get" this show
26 May 2003
Judging from some others' comments, it's apparent that some just don't "get" the show. Jim is not supposed to be our role model -- neither was Archie Bunker, nor is Ray Romano. But they are real people, despite the jerks they often are, and they add a gentler perspective of the types of guys we'd usually simply dismiss as complete asses. This show pokes fun at guys like Jim, and it does it very well. (Belushi obviously puts a lot of his self into his role). This is good comedy, (unlike SO MANY others that simply fish for laughs every thirty seconds, and provide their own laugh tracks, in case we don't know the 30 seconds has come around again).

I really didn't like any of the characters' first impressions; in one way or another, they all reminded me of someone I disliked. But now that I've gotten to know them, they've all "grown on me". I really hope other folks are giving this show the chance it deserves.

A Feel-Good Hit
26 May 2003
Yes, it's about the importance of the first amendment, and our obligation to live up to the ideals for which so many fought and died, and the true nature of heroism. Not to discount the value of those messages, this movie was also about other important things. Such as the importance of having something to believe in, and the power of symbolism, even when the symbol isn't what it's perceived to be.

I liked the movie a lot. I was willing to overlook the many cliches, especially since they made a point of poking fun at some of the very cliches employed. The goal of the movie was to make me feel good about being in this great country, and to motivate me to stand up for the rights of others to believe whatever they need to. It worked.

George Lopez (2002–2007)
Very Funny!
17 December 2002
I love this show! Lopez is a very clever comic, who can deliver a punch line sometimes simply with a facial expression. They did a great job in casting his family and friends, especially his mother. As with most shows named after a stand-up comedian, the primary intent is to give Lopez a vehicle to deliver his comedy. But they surpassed this by casting several very funny costars who can get good laughs on their own. I hope that there are more people like me who appreciate this humor.

One of those movies that sticks with you
2 September 2001
If you like edge-of-your-seat, ass-kicking, nail-biting car chase movies, this one may not be for you. But if you are willing to let characters get under your skin, this film will make you laugh (without being stupid), cry (without being sappy), and hang in suspense (without being unbelievable). OK, so the very last scene was unbelievable -- but it was the perfect ending anyway.

I was inspired!

Life is change. If you can't accept change, you aren't living fully. One of the most profound epiphanies in this story, however, is when the heroine, whose life has been nothing but change, and who is struggling throughout the film to teach others to accept change, realizes that she must learn to change by not changing.

An inspiring fairy tale. My mouth is still watering, wishing I could try any one of the many treats.
