What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Very strong performances...
I'm not a fan of Johnny Depp nor Leo DiCaprio, but I believe that Depp did a brilliant job playing his character and DiCaprio deserved an Oscar as Arnie! I've never seen DiCaprio play a role with as much depth as with this one. He gave a believable, strong and powerful performance! I really don't know what to say except don't hesitate to watch this movie...If you're in the mood to have a long good cry, then this is one of the movies for you! Darlene Cates playing their mother was excellent in her role, and both Mary Steenburgen and Juliette Lewis were wonderful in theirs. I give this movie 10 out of 10 easy...watch it!
Little Women: Part I (1978)
Great acting by all, but one...
First I'd like to say that the only drawback in this movie, is Ann Dusenberry as Amy...I didn't at all like the way she portrayed her character, she looked too old for the part and I felt she played her very coldly. With that said, I'd like to say that I've seen two other versions of Little Women, and this is the best one yet. This version's story line is closer to the book than the other two (1956 & 1994). All the actors did a wonderful job playing their roles...especially Susan Dey as Jo, Robert Young in the part of Mr Lawrence and Greer Garson as Aunt March.
For those of you who enjoy long period dramas, I'm sure you'll find this movie very entertaining!
Limbo (1999)
Watch it for the character Noelle and the actress who plays her!
I saw this movie yesterday and kept repeating the last 45 minutes over and over again. I simply loved this movie, and especially the character of Noelle and the wonderful actress who plays her. Vanessa Martinez is a truly gifted actress and it's a shame that she hasn't acted other roles such as this one. She really made me feel the things that she was feeling. The minute I saw her facial expressions while on the island, I just brokedown and started crying. Her portrayal of Noelle is very very moving, I think that the best thing I got out of this movie was watching her in it. I especially loved the scenes with her reading the diary and the scene where she was sitting on a rock crying. If anyone's having second thoughts about watching it, don't. At least watch it for her.
