Santa's Slay (2005)
Great Xmas crappy movie!
From time to time me and some friends feel compelled to watch a crappy movie. Don't ask me why but it's, to us, a true pleasure. We call it "popcorn movies": the ones you go watch with no expectation, with a great bucket of popcorn. We watched Alien vs. Terminator, 2001 a space travesty and some other... When we found that Santa's Slay was on theater, we said: Let's go again! OK, so it's not an epic. But it worked great for me if you consider it a terror comedy. The killing scenes are, at the same time, disgusting and hilarious. I have some difficulty recommending this movie to someone I don't know. It may be disappointing and I don't want a law suit! But, to a friend, I say: Watch Santa's Slay! It's the greatest Christmas comedy I've ever seen. Hope you enjoy it.
Verano azul (1981)
Verano Azul in DVD
Verano Azul, the 80's Spanish TV series was also very popular in Portugal. By that time, there was only one TV channel in Portugal and, therefore, this series was seen by a whole generation. Even the series theme stays in our memory. I cannot forget all the waiting I did to see the new adventures of those kids. It was the first show that approached several 'tabu' issues (we were in the 80s...) like sex, period, etc...
I heard in the news that a DVD set of the series is about to be released here in Portugal and, probably, in Spain. It's a great chance to meet again those characters that were part of our youth. Note: none of the actors is still performing. 'Chanquete' died of lung disease in 2000. The series' girls are now nurses at a Madrid hospital. Piraña is a University teacher (informatic systems) and Pancho had a (unsuccessful) boys band in Madrid.
O Leão da Estrela (1947)
One of the Best Portuguese comedies
I recognize this is an old movie. It has more than 50 years. It's in Portuguese, and that can be an obstacle, but this is a GREAT, GREAT comedy. António Silva at his best. The most surprising is that this excellent comedy was made during a dictatorship, and that is unusual. If you understand Portuguese, SEE this movie. If you don't, than go and learn.
