Big poetry
18 November 2002
I find this movie very beautiful with a great direction and a wonderful art direction. There are a lot of reference to the Fellini's fantastic world, but the Benigni's originality is save. I think American children will not understand some specifically Italian caracter, such Carabinieri and a lot of affections (a lot of kisses between men, for example) but the poetry is something in common all over the world. Maybe Roberto Benigni is too old to play Pinocchio part, but it will be interesting to see in which way American people could accept the continuous forgiveness by "Fata Turchina": an habit very usual indeed in Catholic Countries.

Zeffirelli's dream
23 September 2002
Fanny Ardant play very well a difficult role. Maria Callas had a strong personality and the Zeffirelli's work helps to understand the psychology of a woman at the end of the career searching for her tranquillity. In my opinion this movie is the dream of a friend of Maria Callas that wanted the singer return to the scene after the end of an incredible voice. The friend is Franco Zeffirelli. The last words of Maria/Fanny in the movie let to understand Maria Callas never wanted to accept the Zeffirelli's propose to come back to the scene even in different way.
