Jason's New Blood
19 December 1999
When this sequel finally came out on video two looong years after part VI, the only expectations I had were that it be NEW BLOOD, and no longer Tommy Jarvis stories. That got old.

My expectations were met, and I was even more thrilled when I realized that it was much like part IV The Final Chapter. This one gives you the mother/daughter relationship of Tina and her mother much like that of Trish and her mother in part IV. But this "New Blood" can move objects with her mind. I realize that the concept is quite exaggerated in the movie, but it still works. Tina never gives up on trying to send Jason back to the grave from which she brought him from (with her telekinesis), and it eventually works a whole ninety minutes later.

Even better for hardcore fans, there is a very large group of teens partying in the cabin next door to Tina's. Among them are Kevin Blair and Susan Sullivan, who lead the roles that are beginning to become trademark to the Friday the 13th industry. Blair plays Nick, the understanding, there-in-the-Nick-of-time, potential hubby for Tina, while Sullivan plays Melissa, the loose, coniving bad half of Tina who seems somewhat lesbian at times in this movie and at the same time is trying to steal Nick away from Tina. This movie has several suspensful chase scenes from the skinnydipper to the girl hiding in Jason's notorious Weapon Shack. For those reasons, I rate Friday the 13th part VII: The New Blood on terms of entertainment only. That is all it is. Harmless fun for the senses. It deserves a seven out of ten. There is New Blood in the movie. Nobody lied...

Jason really LIVES...
19 December 1999
With the exception of part 9, ALL of the "Jason" movies just keep getting better! In my honest opinion, this sequel comes in third as far as Jason "sequels" go (ps:part 1 will always rule) and this sequel comes in right after parts 2 and 4. Part 1 is simply a classic.

Director/Writer Tom McLoughlin has literally recreated Jason after the turn of events in part 5, replacing the character's once-human figure from parts 2-4 with a better, more menacing, grosser, unkillable, zombie-like figure. In this installment, it seems that Jason has stopped chasing his victims and has become a little more quiet and subtle about his "kills".

Most of all, McLoughlin really makes "Jason Live" in this movie. Jason thrives!! McLoughlin, in my opinion, has directed what is probably the most "scary" Jason of them all. I've seen them all a hundred times, and I still jump when he appears in the window in front of Sissy. The acting is extremely acceptable from its predecessors, especially the roles of Tommy Jarvis (Thom Matthews) and Sheriff Garris (David Kagen). Even the camp counselors liven up their roles a bit. Though it was inevitable for them to be slaughtered, I still thought that it was cool that I still remember their characters. There is just something about this one. Jason Lives has an excellent story line that delivers, however, the gore is relatively low at certain times, but McLoughlin never fails to bring it all back with shots of that very very bloody machete of Jason's.

This sequel contains many of my favorite death scenes so far in the series. What McLoughlin did in this movie that previous directors didn't was he actually made Jason unpredictable. I mean, you KNOW he's gonna kill the counselors, but you don't know when or where. I absolutely LOVE that feeling of uncertainty. McLoughlin has Jason lurking out of windows, behind doors, and the scariest part is when Jason is unknowingly in the motor home as the teenagers pull away from camp. There is also a lot of the usual CH CH CH HA HA HA and deep black darkness to enhance Jason's (CJ Graham's) menacing figure.

For once I didn't want any of the characters to get killed. I enjoyed all of their roles. I especially didn't want Paula (Kerry Noonan) to die, and her responsible, soft-spoken, motherly role had me rooting for her to be the lone survivor. That was a first for me...except for Chrissy in part III I never really cared much for the campers. However, my hopes were mutilated in the cabin when Paula dies probably Jason's most notorious kill to date. My God, that cabin is bloody!

Overall, I recommend this installment to any hardcore Jason fan. It is a real horror movie, this time it's for real. Rent it, buy it, do whatever! It's great! Jason Lives...he breathes...he can never die

It's grainy, but it's a classic
19 December 1999
Whatever anybody says about this movie, they have to realize that this is Jason's official, on-screen appearance (except with the drowning cameo in part I). ANY true fan of Jason films will always consider this film a classic. We get to see Jason at work here with the "body shack" and the fairly large body count. He really does kill everyone and he certainly shows up Mrs. Voorhees.

This movie is not very scary, it's just eerie. It makes you wonder about Jason's motives for the first time. The film is so grainy that you would think that Jason actually had the camera when he kills his victims. It looks that real. Movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre I are notorious for the realism their movies portray, and I think this Jason sequel-debut should go right up there with it. I would love to see the main character of this sequel, Ginny (Amy Steel), come back to fight the "real Jason" twenty years later! I hope casting for the new Jason X brings back at least one character from the past, whether it be Corey Feldman or Dana Kimmell. That's what makes these movies so dull. How are we supposed to care about what happens to the characters when their a bunch of nobodies?

I guess that's the FRIDAY trademark, though...

Deep Blue Sea (1999)
10/10
It's definitely not Jaws...
11 December 1999
Nobody can say that this movie didn't scare them. This movie gives more than enough blood and gore and scares, and who cares about the boring cast? Deep Blue Sea gives the audience enough to look at with LL Cool J, Samuel Jackson, and Thomas Jane...what more does there need to be?

The story takes place on a deserted shark facility in Mexico, and the sharks are obviously computer animated. Nonetheless, it is absolutely frightening when you realize that since the facility has flooded--this was obvious from previews and promotions--(also, the scene where the flooding begins is so action packed I forgot to breath) those extremely fast sharks are going to be lurking around...somewhere...and I guarantee you will not know where.

Overall, this film is not a Jaws wannabe. It's more original than that. It has its own story and plot, and there is obviously more excitement since there is a trio of sharks rather than one like in Jaws. What this movie set out to do, it did. It scared the living day lights out of me...every shock scene made me jump. I couldn't predict any of the startle shots before they happened. However, you won't leave this movie feeling like you just watched anything as great as Jaws or anything as original as Scream. Most people would probably feel that its cliche, but I know for a fact they'll leave it a little edgier than they had been before they watched it.

Furthermore, do not watch this movie in the dark. I learned this personally when I first watched it on video. Watch it during the day with a few other people and you'll be alright. I also want to note that this movie breaks the conventional "female heroine" standards with its turn of events in the end. I did NOT know that THAT was coming.. But you'll just have to see this one for yourself.

I give Deep Blue Sea a 9/10. I'm a big fan of Samuel Jackson movies. His appearance, and "disappearance," totally light up this film. If you like these action/science-fiction/horror movies I would recommend other films like *Virus, *Leviathan, or even *Leprechaun In Space!!!

THIS is the real classic...
28 November 1999
THIS movie is the real classic. It works on your mind, your eyes, and your ears, and it does not let up until the end. And what a great ending it is!! The film ends out with Marilyn Burns (Sally) screaming and laughing her head off as she is taken away from the saw-wielding maniac in the back of the pick-up. The scariest scene is when Leatherface comes out of the darkness in the woods and saws up Sally's invalid brother. And even though nobody REALLY knows who Marilyn Burns is, I would rate her scream about a 15 out of 10. She screamed louder than Jamie Lee Curtis and made it sound far more relentless. Overall this movie is extremely disturbing and at the same time classical. It deserves far more credit than it gets and that is only because it is almost too close to home for most of its viewers. I rate it a 10 out of 10.

Dark and scary with a bit of hillbilly...
13 November 1999
This movie had it all...the shadows, the suspicion, the dark scenes>****** death scene had me on the edge of my seat. It is just a really slow movie that takes time to get into. There could have been a couple of more characters in the movie and a better death scene for **** but who cares. This movie is already a classic and in no way is it inferior to Scream. In fact this movie is kind of more original. I mean, I've known plenty of hillbilly fisherman that could do something like that. That really added SPICE to the movie. I would recommend you watch it with the volume full blast and the lights off.

We actually got too much from the fourth sequel....
13 November 1999
If you think about it we actually got too much from the fourth sequel. Compare this to Friday the 13th part five and a Nightmare On Elm Street part five---see the differences? The film is overall scary, just like its predecessors. Jamie is practically mute for the first half. These ideas kind of sop the movie a bit. But there is some scary scenes.

For instance, when Jamie is trapped in the laundry chute. I bet there is no one out there who has seen this movie that wasn't deeply terrified by that scene. It had an appropriate body count and the film is all the more interesting with the mysterious guy in black prowling around. I would rate this a 6/10.

Jason aboard the Titanic!
13 November 1999
Warning: Spoilers
This movie reminds me of Jason aboard the Titanic. The love scene is there between Rennie and Sean. The ultimate destruction of almost everything aboard the ship is also there. This is an extremely entertaining film. I can watch it any day at any time. I just wish there was even more death scenes in it!! It's a great film. A major generation gap between the first one though.

Back in the saddle...
13 November 1999
This sequel really brought the Halloween series back into the saddle. With the exception of part three, this series of films just proves to be superior to all horror films in every respect. The guy just gets freakier and freakier...and so does that psychotic mask! I always wonder why the directors didn't cast any bright cast members of that day. Danielle Harris? Well, SOME people know her if you like horror movies. Ellie Cornell? Beau Starr? Couldn't they at least asked Corey Haim or Ally Sheedy to play the parts? They were the 'teen sensations' back in the eighties. Besides the poor cast the movie is great for a dark night of horror movie feasts!

This one's alright...
13 November 1999
Give this movie a break. It is a little lame but at least they tried. They should have just kept Jason in the films and not tried to trick their target audience.

However, at least there was a bit of a mystery to it. Except for the fact that it is at a weird halfway house it is an overall predictable but good horror movie.

Halloween II (1981)
10/10
The perfect setting....
13 November 1999
Director Rick Rosenthal set up the perfect setting for Michael Myers in Halloween II. The empty halls, the limited number of staff members willing to work on Halloween.

For some reason even the cast is intriguing. You almost think that ** one of the nurses, is going to survive since she is in the movie almost until the end. The only thing I would suggest to the director is next time he should have more informative dialogue so we can at least keep track of the characters. They pretty much all die, or disappear, at once. Overall I give it a 9/10. It's a classic just like the first one.

Don't wear any sweaters or Jason might get sweet on ya...
13 November 1999
This is a movie that seriously needs to be either remastered or remade. It is so old that it's lost its touch but it is still a classic in its genre. Sean Cunningham was probably looking to receive the same type of credit that John Carpenter got from Halloween by not using a lot of funds to produce it; nevertheless, it was produced by Paramount and was nominated for worse picture and worse supporting actress. But that is where statistics look inferior because everyone likes Friday the 13th no matter what anyone says. PS Dont wear any sweaters....

What is there that needs to be said?
13 November 1999
I don't really know what to say. Out of ten, this movie deserves an eleven. What is there that needs to be said? It's like watching a classic musical when I see it today. I hope that no one ever tries to make a remake of it because that would really ruin it. Like I said there is nothing to be said. It's an awesome movie.
