Man of Steel (2013)

Very entertaining and heartfelt Superman film - great acting by Costner and Diane Lane
7 December 2013
Very entertaining and heartfelt Superman film - great acting by Diane Lane and Kevin Costner (should have had more scenes).

I really enjoyed 'MAN OF STEEL' much more than I thought I would. The action was cool, the effects epic and most importantly you cared for the characters. The best scenes involved Ma and Pa Kent played with heartfelt gravitas by DIANE LANE (Best Actress Oscar nominee for Unfaithful, Perfect Storm) and KEVIN COSTNER (Oscar winner for Dances With Wolves). All the actors are good but those two shone for me and should have had more scenes. In fact it was the supporting actors who are the more well known stars... COSTNER, DIANE LANE, RUSSELL CROWE, LAURENCE FISHBURNE... yet it is HENRY CAVILL (who I am not familiar with) who holds the film together with a superb portrayal of Superman / Clark Kent. A good movie with good characters and it is very entertaining.

One of the best sports movies EVER! And a fine movie in general.
7 October 2010
SECRETARIAT is not just a great great sports movie it is just a great movie full-stop. EVery about this film is spot on. The story is wonderfully crafted and well told. The photography is beautiful and classy. The acting is phenomenal. DIANE LANE is in Oscar form as Penny Chenery the owner of Secretariat. She owns the film and gives a very powerful and realistic portrayal. JOHN MALKOVICH is also superb in support. The racing scenes are simply stunning. You are there in the race. It is very well done (and doesn't resort to cheap "shaky-cam" stuff. A very moving and enjoyable movie. It's one of the best sports related movies EVER and comes very highly recommended!

Diane Lane shines in this very entertaining and engrossing love story
29 September 2008
Diane Lane (Oscar nominee for "Unfaithful" and "The Perfect Storm") gives a radiant performance as Adrienne Willis, the female lead in "NIGHTS IN RODANTHE". She is unhappily married and separated from her cheating husband. She is trying to men her shattered life by retreating to a lovely guest house on the beach of Rodanthe. There she meets Dr Flanner (played with sophisticated charm and warmth by a top of his game Richard Gere). The two are uncomfortable at first but a bond soon happens between them and they slowly begin to fall in love. But heartache and tragedy are still to come and it is how these characters overcome these that makes this such a satisfying and wonderful film. Gere is very very good and he and Diane Lane strike up a great chemistry (as they did in the hit movie "Unfaithful"), but the acting honours go to Diane Lane who is simply superb in the lead role. Another Oscar worthy performance by this great actress. Very worthwhile movie!

"UNTRACEABLE" starring Diane Lane --- really good, very much like "SE7EN" - Definitely worth seeing!

"UNTRACEABLE" starring Diane Lane --- really good, very much like "SE7EN" - Definitely worth seeing!

I saw it tonight. Thought it was REALLY intense and suspenseful with some really cool set-pieces. Diane Lane is excellent and it has lots of "SE7EN"-esque moments (including LOTS of rain and a grimy look). There is a very palpable sense of foreboding and dread that I haven't really witnessed since Fincher's classic and maybe "Silence of the Lambs".

Anyway, it won't win any Oscars but it is well worth a look IMHO. Very creepy and dark, but entertaining and thought provoking. Diane is excellent in it!

Recommended. Go see it! 9/10

A powerful and moving film with a great performance by Diane Lane
20 August 2006
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this film. I had seen the great trailer several times and thankfully the film more than lives up to the quality of the trailers. The film is an exploration of fame and what that might cost. It is also the story of three people... Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), Toni Mannix (Diane Lane), and George Reeves (Ben Affleck). When Reeves body is found, Simo looks into the apparent suicide and starts to uncover very disturbing things including the torrid affair Reeves was having with Toni Mannix (Diane Lane).

The film is superbly acted. Everyone here is at the top of their game. Affleck and Brody have never been better, and Bob Hoskins is very intimidating as Ed Mannix (Diane Lane's husband). But it is Diane Lane who gives the standout performance here as a woman who starts off as a confident seducer and ends as a volatile and distraught shell. It is an amazing performance that is both sexy and heart-wrenching. Affleck is also touching and sympathetic as Reeves.

The cinematography is amazing and the story is intelligently written and told. It manages to be both fascinating, interesting and entertaining. The films 126 minutes fly by and the film is very engrossing. Top that with some great performances including an Oscar worthy turn by Diane Lane, and you have one of the best films of 2006 so far. 10/10.

A likable, fresh, funny and feelgood movie with Diane Lane on fire!
13 December 2005
A likable, fresh, funny and feelgood movie with Diane Lane on fire! I have suffered through many rom-coms in the past and liked very few. But... but "MUST LOVE DOGS" is one of the few that is actually a really good movie that everyone can enjoy. DIANE LANE is terrific in the film as Sarah, a woman recovering from a divorce and nervous about getting back in the dating game. JOHN CUSACK really shines as one of her suitors and the support cast is wonderful. I really enjoyed the film from start to finish. It is a breezy, light, fresh and above all else entertaining and funny movie. The comic timing of all the actors especially DIANE LANE is formidable. Great movie. 10 stars!

Diane Lane gives an Oscar worthy performance in an Oscar worthy film.
25 April 2005
I was lucky enough to see this at this years Tribeca film festival. I was stunned by how well made and how entertaining this wonderful little film was. Director Griffin Dunne has done a great job assembling this film that has several characters and several story lines that blend so smoothly and seamlessly. The main story involves the family and it is very thought-provoking and entertaining story that involved the viewer in every scene. The film as a whole has credibility and integrity, yet still has that commercial edge - an "indie" movie for the masses if you like. The performances by the cast are all excellent but it is Diane Lane who shines the brightest. Diane Lane is simply sensational in this wonderful film and should be Oscar nominated. Early days I know, but Lane acts her socks off here.

Oscar nominee DIANE LANE is radiant in this entertaining movie.
25 March 2004
I have always liked DIANE LANE as an actress. From her early roles in "THE OUTSIDERS", "RUMBLE FISH" and "STREETS OF FIRE" to more recent films like "THE PERFECT STORM" and "UNFAITHFUL" she always displays a natural beauty and warmth but she can also play such varied characters. In "UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN" DIANE LANE really comes into her own. It is an amazing performance that won her tons of acclaim, awards AND a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. DIANE LANE's performance as a woman who recovering from a traumatic divorce and has to try to rebuild her life is an absolute powerhouse star turn, and she is nicely supported by a good cast of quirky and very funny characters. The film itself is very well made with lots of subtlety and style. It is funny, sexy, entertaining and very enjoyable. An all round great movie that is made unforgettable by DIANE LANE's funny, touching and radiant performance. A gem! 10 out of 10.

The film itself is very well made with lots of subtlety and style. An allround great movie that is made unforgettable by DIANE LANE's Oscar nominated performance.

Beautiful - in every way!
6 February 2004
"UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN" is a film of gorgeous landscapes -- from the sienna - colored soil and turquoise sky of the Chianti region, to the bleached cliffs and blue seas of Positano, to that funny thing that Oscar nominee DIANE LANE does with her eyebrows when she gets embarrassed. Yes, despite stiff competition from the natural surroundings, LANE's face is not just the witness to beauty but also the thing itself in this stunning-looking film. Chalk it all up to prettiness, if you like, but Lane's case has more to do with spirit -- with warmth and emotional readiness, plus a kind of open-book quality that makes her both lovely and comical, usually at the same time. Beautiful story, film, locations and stars. What more could you want?

Awesome programme on a fantastic talent.
23 December 2003
Oscar nominee DIANE LANE has finally hit the A-list and everyone I know LOVES her and her acting. She has been acting since she was 6 and has been in movies since 12 yet it is now that she has become a bonafide superstar. Well done Diane and please keep making those movies. You deserve your success and acclaim. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!

A major disappointment! Awful!
10 October 2003
I was so looking forward to this, BUT "Intolerable Cruelty" is a complete mess. The Coen brothers have lost the plot with this piece of awful cinema. The plot is hopeless and the film is pathetic and not funny. Considering the immense talent involved this is one major disappointment!

It flies by with laughs aplenty. Enthusiastic and superbly made comedy-romance.
3 October 2003
Under the Tuscan Sun is a superbly made comedy-romance and it has heart and soul in abundance. It is also the kind of film that cries out to be seen on the big screen. The scenery and the food share (yummy!) lot absolutely breathtaking. The glorious, sun-soaked cinematography is by a Geoffrey Simpson who does a fantastic job. Director Audrey Wells gives us a pleasant change of scenery with very enjoyable companions some cool twists and turns and very warm and entertaining movie. Diane Lane is at the top of her game here and carries the film with vitality and enthusiasm. In ending - Under the Tuscan Sun is a very fresh and enjoyable comedy with a wonderful confidence in itself. The stars and scenery are top class and the film flies by with laughs aplenty - just what we want in a good vacation - and a very good film. Recommended.

Beautiful, lovely, sexy and well acted
28 September 2003
This is a beautiful film that has ALL the elements to make it a classic film that can be seen over and over again. Diane Lane is Oscar worthy in her role here as Frances Mayes. The cinematography is stunning, as is the scenery. The story is heartfelt and avoids cutesy sentimentality and cliches. A very good film that is made great in Diane Lane's incredible performance. I'm gonna see it again!

A truly beautiful film. The best film this year so far.
22 September 2003
I was blown away by how wonderful this moving and funny film was. It has everything you could want. Drama, comedy, great acting and beautiful landscapes and music. Diane Lane should win another Oscar nomination for her great work here and the supporting cast were superb with their often quirky portrayals. The film is sweet but not cliched and there is nothing at all the fault it on. A faultless and beautiful film. The best of the year in my opinion. It's a 10!

Diane Lane in a lovely, lovely joyful romp through Tuscany
22 September 2003
Diane Lane is amazing in this lovely, joyful romp through the glorious Tuscany region of Italy. This is a heartfelt and deeply affecting film that will live on long after the final credits have rolled. This film will make you go home and pack your bags for the beautiful scenery on view. The acting is top-notch with Diane Lane giving yet another Oscar calibre performance (remember last years' "Unfaithful"?!) and she carries the film really well. Everyone else I saw this film with absolutely loved it and I'm sure it will be a big hit if given the chance. It deserves to be as it is a really enjoyable and lovely romp through Tuscany and all it's charms. Highly recommended indeed.

DIANE LANE in her Oscar nominated role is perfect
23 May 2003
DIANE LANE (The Perfect Storm, Judge Dredd) is perfect in this sizzling film by the director of 'Fatal Attraction'. No wonder Lane won so many awards and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. This is a great performance that dominates the film. The scene on the train ride home after her first tryst with the sexy Frenchman is already a classic scene and this performance will be remembered forever. The film itself is very stylish and very well made, but it is the amazing acting that raises it well above the average. Watch for the cute kid Dewey from 'Malcolm In The Middle' who plays Diane Lane's son in the film. Highly recommended for those who appreciate great acting.

Diane Lane deserves her Oscar nod in this very good drama
9 April 2003
Wow, I knew Diane Lane could act, but this movie really sealed it for me. She MADE this movie. "Unfaithful" is a really well-done movie about a suburban housewife who finds herself having an affair with a younger man. This action has a devastating reaction that will reverberate forever. Although the theme is really nothing new, Lane's superb acting truly conveys her character's mixed emotions - embarrassment, excitement, shame, giddiness. The gamut of emotions that runs across her face on her subway ride home after her first tryst with her lover pretty much tells the whole story of how this woman feels about what she's doing. It's an unforgettable scene and an unforgettable piece of acting that will be a classic. Without Lane, this movie would have been very, very good. With Lane, it was elevated to a whole new level. Diane Lane thoroughly deserved her Oscar nomination for this performance; she deserved to win it.

A wonderful portrait on one of the most talented and beautiful actresses ever.
23 January 2003
This was a wonderful and poignant portrait of DIANE LANE (Unfaithful, The Perfect Storm, A Walk On The Moon, Streets Of Fire, A Little Romance). Lane is one of the most respected, talented and beautiful actresses to ever grace our screens and this was a wonderful tribute with many contributions from Lane's co-stars, directors and friends.

DIANE LANE is amazing in this poignant and touching film
23 January 2003
DIANE LANE (Unfaithful, The Perfect Storm) proves that she is one of Hollywoods most talented and beautiful actresses in this beautifully made poignant film. DIANE LANE plays Pearl a woman who has missed out on her young adulthood. She is somewhat neglected by her good-natured but somewhat boring husband. She has a chance at some excitement when she meets a handsome travelling blouse salesman (played by Lord of the Rings star VIGGO MORTENSEN). But what is the cost to her and her family...

A well made, lovingly crafted and sexy film with great period details and exceptional performances, especially DIANE LANE who was to tread similar ground in the sexy infidelity thriller Unfaithful.

DIANE (Unfaithful, Perfect Storm) LANE shines as Ellen Aim
23 January 2003
DIANE LANE, and actress I've long admired, shines as Ellen Aim in Walter Hill's cult-classic rock'n'roll fable. The story is straightforward and easy to follow but it's the immense style and class with which this films tells its story that makes it such a 1980's favourite. Many early appearances by now famous actors include, the above mentioned DIANE LANE (Unfaithful, The Perfect Storm), Willem Dafoe (SpiderMan, Platoon), Bill Paxton (True Lies, Titanic) and Rick Moranis (Hone I Shrunk The Kids, Parenthood). Great fun to be had with this great flick. Amazing soundtrack as well. 10 out of 10!

Mature and provocative masterpiece with a sensational performance by DIANE LANE
2 January 2003
DIANE LANE proves she is one of THE BEST actresses working in Hollywood today with a sensational performance in "UNFAITHFUL". This is a star-making portrayal of a woman torn apart by her descent into betrayal and adultery. A thrilling piece of cinema that will have you engrossed yet entertained for it's duration. Classy and provocative "UNFAITHFUL" is one of the best films this year. Great acting, great story (not as "familiar" as you expect), and wonderful execution. A masterpiece! 10 out of 10. The DVD is remarkable with a great video transfer, excellent sound, and tons (and I mean TONS) of extra features.

Diane Lane gives spectacular performance in top-notch thriller
17 December 2002
I really, really enjoyed "Unfaithful". It was easily one of the best, most enthralling, thought-provoking and provocative films I have seen all year. The suspense was realistic and very believeable which made the film all the more powerful. The acting by Diane Lane was astonishing and she should win an Academy Award for her spectacular performance. 10 stars for me. A top-notch thriller!

DIANE LANE is sensational in a rock-solid thriller from about the dangers of adultery
28 October 2002
This movie sounded to me like a "Fatal Attraction 2" but with the roles reversed. How wrong could I be! This was a cracking thriller that had many new and exciting elements that helped make it a very "different" and refreshing thriller. DIANE LANE (The Perfect Storm, Streets Of Fire) is sensational as the films main character and she relishes every minute of her great performance with a star-making charisma and power that already has many critics talking Oscars. LANE simply becomes Connie and it is a mark of her talent that she is so memorable yet subtle in her portrayal. Unfaithful is a refreshing and rock-solid thriller that has deserved it's boxoffice success. 10/10
