Terror Firmer (1999)
I want my money back.
I have always liked Troma flicks and I particulary have enjoyed the way they thumb their noses at the so-called "Hollywood Film Industry" but this flick was pretty dumb. Another thing that has appealed to me about these flicks is their somewhat creative use of cheep latex gore effects. Unfortunately I rented the R version which cuts out virtually all of the gore effects and only leaves the gross-out effects. And there are plenty of them, (they went way overboard with the excrement). Also lots of snot and disgusting fart noises, (some seem to be thrown in for no apparent reason). I give this one a 0 out of 4 stars, (I would have given it a 1 if they had not cut out all of the effects in the R version).
Ancient Evil: Scream of the Mummy (2000)
They spent more money on the box cover than the whole movie.
Really lame horror flick. No gore or nudity,(R rating must be for the teenage profanity), bad acting, dumb dialog. You know you are talking low budget when the dead characters wounds are just a splash of fake blood here and there. I would give this one minus 4 stars. In other words people should be paid to watch this.
Convergence (1999)
Boring
I'm afraid that there wasn't much I cared for in this movie. While it was somewhat well acted, the plot was disjointed and there was very little action. And with the exception of a few streaks in the sky and a couple of expolosions, there were no special effects, (oh yea, a cup flew up and hit the ceiling). I guess if you are from seattle it might be entertaining but I would recommend the rest of us pass on this snoozer.
From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (1999)
Just as good if not better than the original.
I rented this flick with fairly low expectations but in the end I was pleasantly suprised. Traditionaly these straight-to-video flicks usually suck but in this case I thought the movie was probably better than the original. While this movie was not perfect it had cool sets, good acting, good story, lots of action, and great characters. I would give this *** out of ****.
Desert Heat (1999)
Truly the biggest waste of $3 I have ever seen.
Looks like Jean Claud has really hit rock bottom on this one. Lots of half-baked pseudo Native American mysticism, Jean Claud posing, old washed-up actors. Looks like a bunch of buddies with nothing to do got together and said "hey, I know. Lets make a movie". Also, there was something that seemed really Gay about this movie.
El día de la bestia (1995)
Cool visuals and decent dubbing
I thought this was a very well done movie even though it had one of those disjointed plots that are so common with European flicks,(the ending had me totally confused). I thought that the dubbing was well done and the movie was quite nice to look at. There was also a death scene that came right out of nowhere and kind of reminded me of something out of a Dario Argento film. I would give this movie 3 stars. ***
