Tears of the Sun (2003)
When do your orders no longer matter?
Tears of the Sun has very much the flavor of a 1960s film, Dark of the Sun (Rod Taylor & Jim Brown). Armed men enter an African war zone to escort Europeans out. In Tears, the men are U.S. Navy commandos who are told to ignore everything and everyone but their mission. The problem is first that the Doctor they are sent to take out will not go without the people she's been helping and second that the ongoing tragedy around them begins to wear down their resolve to stay uninvolved. I found it enjoyable and a cut above the standard pursuit or war film.
Harry Anderson's 'Hello, Sucker!' (1986)
Harry Anderson makes getting ripped off Fun!
Harry Anderson is left handed. This becomes a part of his act (Sinister means "Left Handed" after all.) He began as one of those people who set up a table on a street corner and offer to let you gamble with a little 3-card-monty. Everyone wins at first; everyone loses in the end. It's a confidence game. His act is a confidence game. Anderson shows you what he's doing, shows you he's making a sucker out of the audience, and makes you enjoy the experience. He constantly reminds you he's running a con, from the stage, and makes you like it.
Part magic act; part con game; all fun. Favorite line? "He just gave me $20 and I just spit in her drink."
