State and Main (2000)
Great film, wonderful acting.. directing falls short
I thought that over all this film was wonderful. The cast is what makes this film work. The lack of direction is apparent throughout the film and you can almost see Mr. Mamet saying "Oh, you know what to do here". I am not quite sure how films about the making of films actually get the green light, but I guess you can chalk it up to: WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW. This film may fall short to people outside the business as there are a lot of industry references, but to those who have even been near a set, it is well worth seeing.
The Whole Nine Yards (2000)
TV actor need to be trained for the movies
This is the type of movie that when you are cleaning the house on a Sunday afternoon and it comes on you might sit and watch for a few minutes and that about sums it up. The story is impossible, but the truly bothering part of this movie is Matthew Perry's lack of ablilty to remember where his hands were for each shot. One second they are in his lap and the next camera angle, they are on his hips, and it happens throughout the entire film. This isn't something that I even notice, and I am a HUGE fan of FRIENDS and his part played on FRIENDS (which, in this movie, they should have just called him Chandler). The continuity department fails us, but worse of Perry fails us with his "Chandler falls down again and again" performance.
Amazon Women on the Moon (1987)
A must see for anyone who enjoys movies.
This is one of those movies that you see, put on a shelf, and get back out a few years later for belly laugh after belly laugh. Something else fun about this movie is seeing how many actors made it big after this movie came out. SO many NOW name talent and then they were just trying to get work in a city full of people trying to get work. The pure fun that the movie pokes at itself makes this a MUST see!
