Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
Amazingly filled with signifcant images
Amazingly filled with significant images. It seemed that every frame contained archetypical images that might escape the casual observer. Spirited Away is simply overflowing with spiritual truth. Highly recommend more than one viewing of this sweet, exciting story.
Serendipity (2001)
It was a good romantic comedy with heart-felt messages
An 8 might seem like a high rating... but this was a sweet, well developed, and entertaining romantic tragedy/comedy. It reminds us to live from our hearts and to stop refusing to take chances just because we might appear foolish. Great rewards require great risk. Live from your heart. These are messages worth telling on screen.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Bravo! The heart of the writing shines through!
Bravo! All I can add is that I nearly jumped from my seat when I saw how they filmed Sam's reaction to Frodo leaving. In any other film, that performance would have been over-the-top. I was afraid they would miss the importance of Sam's undying willingness to act from his heart. It was perfect! (Thanks, Sean, for getting it right!)
The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)
A Simple Re-telling of the Bagavad Gita
I read several reviews of this movie written by critics who simply missed the message. Some even thought this movie was about nothing more than a man who lost his sexual prowess.
This is a graceful, simple re-telling of the Bagavad Gita, the story of the warrior whose body survived the battle without his will and soul intact. The story of the man who overcame his victim mentality in order to fully realize his potential.
The story is truly beautiful when you open yourself to the beauty.
The Audrey Hepburn Story (2000)
Jennifer Love-Hewitt shines in her portrayal of Audrey Hepburn
In reply to those who said Love-Hewitt was all wrong for this part, may I remind you, she is an actress. Furthermore, in this role she proves she is a talented actress. No one could ever replace Miss Hepburn, but Love-Hewitt nailed this part! She had the movements, the voice, the charm... she practically was Audrey Hepburn!
Congratulations on a job well done!
Radio Flyer (1992)
A woeful tale, wonderfully told
Everything about this film is simply incredible. You truly take this journey through the eyes and soul of a child.
I do feel it is important to note this tale is about child abuse. Don't rent it for your kids thinking it is a fun, disney-esque film.
