Call me crazy, but I liked it...
9 July 2003
But before you chalk this up to being just the ramblings of a madman, a child or both, I would like to assure you that I am a 24 year old male with a broad sense of humor. I can't believe The Master of Disguise got such harsh reviews. It opened in Denmark nearly a year after it did in America so I had plenty of opportunities to read the bad reviews. But I decided to ignore them and to form my own opinion. I went to see it with my sister and I genuinely liked it. Word must have got around, because we were the only ones there, but on the other hand it was one of the smaller theaters in a multiplex cinema on a workday. Actually it added to the whole experience because we could laugh as loud as we wanted. And boy, did we laugh. There were so many funny scenes like The Turtle bit and the all too specific pop-up book, not to mention the slapping dummy. I especially enjoyed the references to other movies like when Grandfather Disguisey shows up Father Merrin style or when Pistachio shows up at Bowman's party disguised as Tony Montana. Another thing I liked was the cameos by for instance Bo Derek. I thought it was a great movie. The characters were both well cast and acted, furthermore I found that all the jokes were well carried out and none of them fell flat, not even Devlin Bowman's flatulence. It's nearly impossible to miss with a good fart joke.

What can I say? Sometimes you just can't rely on critics. I can't wait to see Malibu's Most Wanted. I know it too got some harsh reviews but I don't care. I've seen the trailer and it looks good to me. I'm going. Even if it doesn't open in the Danish theaters.

Casablanca: First Blood Part II
10 June 2002
What can I say about a movie of this caliber that hasn't already been said? The spoof or lampoon is a special genre, where you can either rise beyond the original or fall flat on your butt. So what are the key elements to a good spoof? Great dialog, good actors, attention to detail and a fondness of the movies you spoof will get you a long way. And Hot Shots! Part Deux has it all. It's certainly one of my favourite spoofs of all times. As with all spoofs this movie is a mix of many other great movies but the two storylines it follows the closest are those of Rambo and Casablanca. It's quite fascinating to see Charlie Sheen as a blend of Rambo and Humphrey Bogart and Valeria Golino as part Commando and part Ingrid Bergman with Rowan Atkinson as a somewhat weaker Victor Lazlo. From the flashbacks depicting their romance to the killing spree in the jungle and their second meeting ("Of all the secret missions in all the jungles in all the world she had to walk into mine"). This movie is simply fantastic. Go see it.

The Movies Were Better!
29 July 2001
I must say that this show is pretty bad. The creators probably meant well but it just isn't funny. You can't watch this show without first having seen the movies on which it was based. The only time the show becomes remotely funny is when one of the cadets or their instructors from the original academy makes a cameo. And that is why the funniest character on the show is Larvell Jones. It's nice to see that they at least kept him. But it's just not enough. One man can't make up for the flaws of the show. The jokes don't work too well, and the ensemble is mediocre. All in all, it's been done before and better, I might add, in the movies. Bring back Steve Guttenberg and make Police Academy 8. Anything is better than this!!

The Stupids (1996)

Thank Lloyd For The Stupids!
23 July 2001
I definitely loved this movie. It has many great elements to recommend it. It appeals to children and adults alike. The actors were great. I know some people have been badmouthing Tom Arnold and saying that he is unfunny and can't act. But that simply isn't true. His talent and versatility has been proven many times in films such as True Lies, Carpool, Big Bully, Austin Powers - International Man Of Mystery, and of course The Stupids. Furthermore I was delighted to see Christopher Lee making a cameo appearance as The evil archvillain "Sender". He is brilliant. This movie was virtually a smorgasbord of jokes. All well thought out and carried out. But I must say that my favorite moment is when Stanley Stupid accidently stumbles upon a talk show where the subject is weird family relations. He meets some very disturbed people with some very peculiar family relations, but he still manages to outdo them all by proving that he's his own grandpa. It's hilarious. Catch it, if you can!

Men in White (1998 TV Movie)

From Bad To Worse To Men In White!
17 July 2001
Although properly warned I actually sat down to watch this movie. In part because I usually give every movie an even break, and because I thought that a single movie couldn't be that bad. I stand corrected. Not even George Kennedy, Barry Bostwick or Ben Stein could save this turkey from sinking like a ton of bricks. Only once during this humor forsaken travesty of a spoof did I laugh. Namely during the Simon says scene. The other jokes are either poorly carried out or simply plain unfunny. And some of them you actually see coming a mile away. This movie just hasn't got what it takes to be a good parody like Airplane! (I+II), Naked Gun (I+II+III), or Scary Movie. They all had A. funny gags, B. good dialog and most important of all C. unforgettable quotes. Men In White has got D. none of the above. To call this movie bad would be a gross understatement. AVOID THIS MOVIE ANYWAY YOU CAN! CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED!
