When a Stranger Calls (2006)
Worst-Movie-EVER!
I went to go and see this movie a few days ago, and did I ever regret it! It was such a bad movie that I even considered writing West to demand my 10 bucks back, and I even used a gift card! I was looking forward to seeing this, but when I sat down and the movie started I realized that I had made a grave mistake in believing this movie would actually be decent enough to entertain me. But with the cheesy music, the utter lack of something ACTUALLY happening and the fact that the main character (camilla bell) looked exactly like Ashlee Simpson, I half expected her to lip-sync and start a jig...absolutely ridiculously bad casting...shame on you casting director...leave Hollywood...now! So, i guess what I'm saying is save your 10 dollars and get a wax job instead, it'll be less painful...
Unleashed (2005)
Great Action/Drama
Working at a local Blockbuster I get to see a lot of movies, and I've seen the majority of Jet Li's movies, but this one is by far his best one. I was shocked by his ability to act and choreograph some of the best fight scenes i've seen in years. My only complaint about this movie was how graphic it was, I expected it going in, but in some scenes they went a little too far, but overlooking that it was a great action ride, and Jet Li's performance was mind blowing, I still can't get over the fact that he can really act. Keep up the great movies Jet Li! For anyone looking for a great adventure with great acting and a great storyline should definitely check this one out, you won't be disappointed. I rate it an 8 out of 10.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)
Utter GARBAGE!
Okay, first off, you know the movie is going to be bad when there's a singer/actor in the movie! Why would you hire Enrique Iglesiasto be in the movie, first mistake! Second mistake, as said in an earlier in another user comment, before making this movie someone has to read the SCRIPT! I don't even know why this garbage was made!
Everyones acting is so forced that it's hard to feel for the characters or be scared of them. Let's face it, Antonio isn't scary, he just needs a bath in this movie...he's just greasy! The script was garbage too, nothing flowed smoothly. If you want to be tortured in your seat, I suggest watching this movie, but if you want to save yourself the painful 2 hrs just put it back on the shelf and walk away!
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Good try...(contains some spoilers)
the attempt to remake the original in 1974 was almost complete, however, instead of trying to tell more a story, the writers decided to add in more gore then the original. The story wasn't as good, nor was the infamous 'leatherface', he somehow seemed scarier in the original. Overall, i guess it was okay, not the greatest...but...a decent enough film to rent..but not see in the theatres..unless you have a pass or something...
Equilibrium (2002)
Unexpectedly amazing!
I was told by a friend that this was a great movie. Him being a guy, and the movie being action I didn't have high hopes, but I was pleasantly surprised. The main character, last name Preston, played by Christian Bale, is the highest ranking officer of the cleric, he doesn't take his eradication of feelings dosage one day and thus he begins to feel. The movie follows him and his resistance to the new norm of the world -- which is that feelings are chaos.
I loved this movie! The acting was great by each and everyone, and almost every scene had something new and entertaining about it. Emily Watson did a great job as the rebel woman in the movie, great great film! I just have to find a copy now to buy and we're all set!
I highly recommend it, and not just to rent but buy it, you'll watch it a lot! ENJOY!

Tears of the Sun (2003)
Shocking...
I didn't expect much when I rented this movie...I figured typical war/action movie with gruesome scenes and a lot of stuff being blown up. However, what I did not expect was the emotional tie I would have towards not only the soldiers, but all the people who were fighting in the war, both the "good guys" and the "bad guys". I found myself being shocked and appauled at the extremes that some people would go to in the time of war...and I know that this wasn't based on actual events, but I'm sure that almost anything can happen when adreneline is pumping and your rage is directed at a person you don't know. This movie, which is not suitable for children due to it's graphic scenes and extreme violence, is something that adults and adolesence should watch and experience. It is one heck of an eye-opener.
Overall, even though some of Bruce Willis's acting was a little lame and forced (his screaming into the phone asking for help...a little fake) but overall, the movie was amazing. The settings were beautiful and the story graphic and eye opening. I give it a 4/5 stars. Give it a watch.
They (2002)
Copycat
This movie, although it's main focus is on something different, it's exactly like "Darkness Falls". First off the only way to keep the "bad guy" in each film from killing you you must be in the light. Next both films are completely and utterly predictable. However, the one thing that "They" does include that "Darkness Falls" does not is the fact that the plot, although similiar, added something unique at the end (even though it was obvious). watch both films and you'll know what I mean...it's nothing too special, so don't rent them on account of just that, but, if you're bored one night with a couple of friends give them a rent and have fun with it. They're both typical scary movies with the right screams and growls at the appropriate time to try and make you jump. But if you're looking for a true movie to scare you check out "The Ring". Now there's a scary movie! Overall, this movie was typical and was pretty darn obvious...but it was entertaining at most parts. 3 out of 5 stars.
Rang-e khoda (1999)
Forced to watch...
I was forced to watch this film during a introduction to film class in university, and let me tell you I was not looking forward to an Iranian film. However, the movie ended up becoming one of my top 20 and a movie in which I believe everyone should experience.
The movie begins with the perspective of a blind perosn (which is what the entire movie is about - a blind person). You can only hear things in the beginning but once the camera is unblinded you realize that you're in a school in Iran for blind children. THe plot follows the life of this child and his relationship to his family, particularly his father and his grandmother (granny). The film dissects the importance of love and loyalty of family ties.
The only complaint about the film, which couldn't be avoided, was the subtitles, personally they give me headaches, however this was unavoidable due to the fact that it was in the Iran Language.
I highly recommend viewing this movie to one and all...definately a movie that should be kept in the classroom but instead should be spread to any person whose interested in a life altering story and a movie that you'll remember forever!
Shadow Lake (1999)
Pretty good TV Movie
Shadow Lake (1999) is about the discovery of a long-missing body found in shadow Lake. However, there is a much greater secret and story hidden behind the body. Mag Ruffman who plays Louise Garby is the daughter who left town after her father went missing, and now that her fathers body has been discovered she comes back to figure out what occurred the fateful night of her fathers death. But, can she live long enough to find the truth?
I saw this movie for the first time about a year ago. My first impression as I started watching it was that it would be like all of TV Movies and be lame and boring. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The acting was still "TV Acting" but the plot and storyline was nicely done and everything was nicely concluded in the end. I would recommend this movie to those who are looking for a pretty good movie. A good rainy night movie.

Saved by the Bell (1989)
Love it!
I grew up watching this show and still at 18 I watch the re-runs every day before I go to school. So some of the things aren't believeable, it's a kids show -- not everything has to make perfect sense.
The basis of the show is a group of six students growing up and dealing with life. It's a great show and helped prepare me for some problems that I'd face in the future.
great show! I'll continue to watch it until they take it out of syndication!
Selena (1997)
Amazing!
Before reading this summary beware plot is kind of given away! Sorry.
I decided to rent this movie when I heard about Selena's tragic ending. Her tragic ending stuck in my mind for week's. I didn't want that kind of last impression, so I rented the movie to give myself a broader sense of who she was, and what she stood for. Enough of that. This movie portrays her as a person who deserved to make it in the music business. Selena (played by Jennifer Lopez) was excellent and very believable.
This movie was definately something that Selena would of been proud of.
