Yurîka (2000)
Overwhelming
Whoa, I do not expect anything better than this for 2001. The great cinematography, the wonderful musical score and the outstanding performance by Koji Yakusho make Eureka deeply touching. Contemporary Japanese cinema is definitely the most exciting world wide. Check this out...
Anders als du und ich (§ 175) (1957)
stupid pic...
What can you possibly say about a film that a) portrays homosexuality as evil and even diabolic and that b) was made by the infamous Veit Harlan, director of nazi-propaganda-films like "Jud Süß" and "Kolberg"? Well, it's surprisingly quite entertaining, despite (or because of) its reactionary message. An extremely simple plot, melodramatic twists, great villains and a great score and a guest appearance by Oskar Sala (...Hitchcock's "Birds", anyone?) provides you with the viewing pleasure you have the right to ask for. This is true document of German "Spießertum" (look it up in your German dictionary) ... :)
Organ (1996)
One strange flic!
Organ is one of these movies, that are so far away from "common filmmaking", that you have to spend some time on it. After watching it on the big screen I discovered a certain "beauty" deeply buried in Kei Fujiwara's film.
Please give "Organ" a chance, it's one of the most original movies I've ever seen.
