Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (1983)
Dreadful
This movie is so bad that it's hardly eligible to be called a movie. It is a complete waste of time. DO NOT RENT the tape/DVD or BUY it. Don't even view it on TV, if it happens to be shown there. Spacehunter, etc., could probably qualify as the worst movie ever made.
The Black Stallion Returns (1983)
A surprisingly good film.
For some unknown reason those whose profession it is to write reviews didn't think highly of this picture, but I found it amazingly well done. Kelly Reno was superb in his portrayal of a teenager who travels from New York all the way to the desert in Morocco in an attempt to retrieve his horse, kidnapped in New York and taken to Morocco. While the story is implausible, the ACTION and the filming and music are superb. See it, if you can.
Godzilla (1998)
Brave try???
This film starts out with a great deal of promise, but soon degenerates into a display of the efforts of the special effects department to dazzle the viewer. Unfortunately the story line somehow gets lost in all of this. A major glitch occurs when the creature, Godzilla, has attacked New York but disappears, only to be found underground when Matthew Broderick opens a man hole cover. A creature of this size can burrow underground without leaving a trace? NO WAY. The creature then pops out and once more terrorizes the city. The city is supposed to go through an evacuation, but, if this happens, it is cleverly concealed, since it remains populated with myriads of people. The creature supposedly lays a few zillion eggs, requiring massive efforts to destroy them, apparently successful until the ending. I wonder how Matthew Broderick managed to get himself trapped into this turkey. He was excellent in Torch Song Trilogy, The Freshman and Glory, but this was a real mistake for him. I think he needs to fire his agent and get a better one.
