Chan Is Missing (1982)
an inspiring debut feature
this is one of the most original stories to come along, and certainly the most important of Asian American films out there. produced with a low budget, this simple story of a missing person turns into an analysis of culture and stereotypes, not only of Asians, but all people. this is truly a must-see film for movie lovers.
Kikujirô no natsu (1999)
Not what I expected when I saw it, but a great film!
I had no idea what the film was about when i went to the theater, but i was pleasantly surprised when the end credits came up. It's been a long time since i laughed through the entire picture. it's classic "beat." Takeshi combines the serenity of 'Hanabi' and the comedic elements of 'Sonatine' and blends in a beautiful sound track. I would recommend this film to any film lover who is disenchanted with the tripe major studios produce every year.
Tesis (1996)
A truly frightening film!
I was so scared when i watched it the other night at 2:30 am. i like it even more than Amenabar's later film, 'Abre los ojos.' The ending kind of dragged a bit, but the acting was good, and the music, although it sounded a lot like the 'X-files,' was very well used. i would recommend this film to everyone who likes to be scared.
