Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996)
Analysis Of The Mythological Wonder That Is Leprechaun 4
This movie is terrific, especially because of its intense focus on the role of the Leprechaun in the future. Despite being a creature of the past, the Leprechaun (for unexplainable reasons) is now in space. Without getting TOO descriptive (I would hate to ruin the ending for anybody who was going to see this movie) the dialogue is astounding, and the cast gives a top notch performance. The Leprechaun's weapons are unusually wonderful in design and implementation (one zany death-tool is...a Lepre-LightSaber!). One part that is kind of special is how Leprechaun 3 and Leprechaun 4 have nothing to do with each other, and they never explain how the Leprechaun got into space. In conclusion, I voted with my conscience and gave this movie a 10 out of 10. Frequently overlooked, this movie lacks the commercialization of the previous Leprechaun films (which were released to theater as opposed to direct-to-video). In summary, this movie was really really rad.
Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1995)
The Suffering Children Of Man's Desire For Morebetter Technology
I believe that the genius who wrote this film is so far ahead of us, that our brains have no choice but to reject the complex storyline and beautiful cinematography that is Lawnmower Man 2:Beyond Cyberspace. The saga of Job continues, and once again, hilarious hi-jinks ensue. I would consider this movie a mix of Flowers For Algernon and Indecent Proposal. Without revealing TOO much of the plot, an evil corporation proposes that Job (who used to be stupid) do something evil; this is indecent. Job kind of flies around, and tells jokes, and the jokes he tells are funny. This part is REALLY rewarding. In conclusion, I voted with my conscience and gave this film a 1 out of 10. It was really really rad.
American Cyborg: Steel Warrior (1993)
Oh, The Humanity Of It All
I have to tell you, I was prejudiced against this movie from the very beginning. The thought of Joe Lara playing a character who was not Tarzan was kind of disturbing at first. But eventually, I realized that this was not just an ordinary movie. This is a movie where people walk (sometimes run). People walk (see above paranthetical reference about running) and OTHER people chase them as they walk. Without revealing TOO much of the plot, there is a fetus that Joe Lara has to protect for some reason. And protect he does. Meanwhile Joe Lara and the girl who plays Mary (in a VERY subtle reference) walk around a nightmarish vision of the future. It was...KIND OF ugly. Anyways, I voted with my conscience and gave this movie a 1 out of 10.
Rad (1986)
An Exhilirating Race For Young And Old Alike
Right off the bat, this movie has action. People ride BMX bikes through a stunningly beautiful city (probably Victorville). Cru Jones is a BMX biker who is really good, but has a crotchety hag of a mother (played convincingly by Talia Shire) who for some illogical reason wants Cru to take his SATs. Hilarious hi-jinks ensue, and let me tell you, Rad is not just a film, but rather a genre. There have since been a ton of movies REALLY similar to it, such as Thrashin' (1986), North Shore (1987), and Airborne (1993). However due to the original storyline (kind of like Rocky), wonderful scenery (kind of a desert meets urban decay), and actors performing out of their standard roles (Talia Shire as a crotchety hag), Rad is the grandaddy of them all. I had to vote with my conscience, and give this movie a 10 out of 10.
