Genesis (2004)
a visually stunning film
a simple story ties together beautifully-filmed vignettes about birth, life, love, battle and death.
shot in iceland, madagascar, the galapagos islands and in the producers' own labs, the film features spectacular and surprising detail about nearly-prehistoric animals.
this film is suitable for young children wanting to learn about life, as well as for adults looking for visual proof of natural diversity. I enjoyed it greatly for its colour, its details and the stunning actions that it depicts.
I will never look at a rattlesnake quite the same way again...
Nouvelle-France (2004)
A beautiful tear-jerker
Beautiful film to be enjoyed for what it is - a lovely way to spend an afternoon at the cinema. Sweeping vistas of the province of Quebec, beautiful shorelines, spectacular forests and yes there's a love story in there as well.
There are some historical inaccuracies, true. If you want a documentary, look elsewhere.
For pure entertainment value, the film delivers. Beautiful costumes, a nice story, good acting, a number of tears at the end of the film.
Beautifully done. A nice 'first date' movie, or a nice mother-and-daughter film.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)
a disappointment
Experiencing the remake of this film was much like attending Bridget Jones' mum's Christmas dinner - a rehash of predictable clichés served with good intentions.
I felt like a focus group was consulted prior to story development.
"What were the key scenes that you liked in the first movie?"
giant panties "OK, let's have more of those in the second film. Anything else?"
the girly-fight between the two blokes "Done. Anything else?"
yawn...
Sure, I laughed out loud at some scenes. But others were a stretch. Bridget on e? Bridget in prison in Thailand (in a /comedy/?)
And Bridget appeared to have gained a LOT of weight in the four weeks where the first film ends, and the second film resumes.
I enjoyed the first film because Bridget appeared sincere, endearing and earnest. The second film was a rehash - the three actors executing their roles well, but without the same energy or risk-taking. Just more of the same, done less well.
