How It Ends (2018)
About to watch the ending of a cool movie and then there was a power failure in the theater
This would've been a pretty decent apocalyptic film. The lead character played by Theo Jones was a bit too boring, but maybe he was meant to be to be in contrast to his girlfriend's tough angry dad played by the always intense Forrest Whitaker. Could've easily have done without the Barbie Doll girlfriend, luckily her part was minor. But the movie was very cool, the world goes to crap (well, at least the U.S. does), as the mysterious cataclysm befalls the West Coast... Is it a nuclear explosion? An alien attack? A natural event? They keep you wondering through the whole movie, so you're like, this is great, keep the suspense up, I can't wait till they get to the West Coast and find out! Personally I thought it was something like a natural event from far away in space, like a death x-ray beam from a quasar several hundred light years away, or even massive solar flares... But you never find out, with all the cool special effects that tease you with the possibilities, in the end, there is no end... nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. FAIL! Otherwise, it was a pretty good tough, dark, road trip across the Mad Max wasteland... Where once all electricity and communications and GPS and cell service are gone, the country goes to hell and falls into total anarchy. Sounds like fun for sure, but alas, the idiot director decided to take a vacation before the movie was done filming, or maybe he fired his entire writing staff. Either way, there's no point in watching this movie unless you completely understand that the ending is missing. Then you might be able to enjoy it... One of the best characters in the film was the Native American girl mechanic, 'Ricki', she really made the film but they managed cut her out of the movie just when it was getting interesting. I guess i should've known something bad was afoot when they took her out of the scenes, because she was fantastic... an actor by the name of Grace Dove (who just happens to be a First Nations Canadian 'Indian' in real life)... She's about the only good thing that I got out of the film, now I just want to see other films with her in them. But as far as How It Ends? Well, it doesn't... This movie could have easily received a 6 or 7 if it had an ending... What a joke.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
fantastic except for one thing...
everything about this movie is fantastic, and the lead girl is awesome in so many ways, and i'm sure there are lots of reviews that delve into the movie so i won't repeat them. i just have one huge gripe with the movie, and it's sort of a spoiler but not a spoiler because i'm not giving anything away... it's just the ending, not the conclusion of the mystery itself, just the side plot, which was the very ending of the movie itself... it got me so angry, the writer could've easily done the opposite, and it would've made me smile so much... but instead, i just ended up incredibly angry, what was the point of doing that? OK, i won't say anything more, but nonetheless, the movie was fantastic, great cast, great drama, great story, awesome lead 'Lisbeth' played by Rooney Mara.. i would've given it a 10 if it wasn't for that one thing
The Stupids (1996)
ridiculously stupid, one of the most non-stop funniest movies ever
I don't know why this has such a low score on IMDb, and i don't know why I've never seen it before. I by chance started watching it today, and I've been in tears laughing my butt off all day long watching it. This movie is basically non-stop hilarious idiotic one-liners and absurd vaudeville comedy like scenes. It's very reminiscent of the comedy style of Airplane and all its sequels and the deadpan absurdity of Leslie Nielsen. And it doesn't slow down at all, it actually gets funnier and funnier. I guess this type of comedy isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you liked Airplane, you'll love The Stupids. I gave it a 9 'cause it's just, that, stupid.
Alone in the Dark (2005)
wow... all i have to say is wow
i'm the kind of person who can enjoy some pretty bad movies, always finding something in it to make my night enjoyable... but this movie is beyond bad, on so many levels, in so many ways, it's a horror of horrible movie-making... even with some well known names, Christian slater, stephen dorff, and tara reid, i could only feel so bad for them, for they will forever be marked by this massively terrible garbage... the dialogue is so poor, you wonder just how the writers could possibly get work anywhere... a grade school film class would have better dialogue... (no offense to grade school kids)... it's so bad i kept sighing constantly, wondering if i could continue to watch it... it was physically painful to hear lines like, "check the perimeter", or "looks like a dead end, i'll go check it out".. maybe i should just kill myself and end the suffering quickly... the special effects are typical TV sci-fi fare, the creatures are very unoriginal, the background music is incredibly annoying, and the movie is exactly 95 minutes too long, as one minute would be the most any sane person could handle... i guess the only thing this movie could be good for, is at a party, where everyone can take turns making fun of every single bad scene... i sort of got two impressions about this movie.. either, some very young video-gaming pimple faced kid received a huge inheritance from a dead rich uncle, and decided to make their own movie, of which the kid has no movie making skills whatsoever, and will never have.. he just had the money... or, the movie was not created by a human at all, it's the latest AI software, that used mathematical formulas for creating dialogue, music, lighting effects, plot, and casting... if that was true, i'd at least give it that much.. but alas, i was only hoping for an excuse for this mess... this was truly one of the worst movies i've ever seen in my entire life...
Ratz (2000)
fun, silly, cute... exactly what it should be
I loved this movie! In the style of a good tween fun comedy, in similar style as such shows like Lizzie McGuire, two very personable best girl friends deal with being unpopular, with no boys to date at the annual school dance, and a fun story of a magical ring that brings a faery-tale like wish that turns two cute pet ratties, Scooter and Spike, into two cute boys for the girls.
Casting was great with this movie, the girls Marci Kornbalm and Summer Weingarten, played by Vanessa Lengies and Caroline Elliott, are a wonderful very likable pair. The movie also has two other sub-plots going on at the same time, with veteran actors Ron Silver, playing the part of Herb Sonic, a lonely shy timid guy who's had a forever crush on the local antique collectibles store owner, a very homely nerdy looking Doris Trowbridge, played by the very funny Kathy Baker, who's wishes of becoming as pretty as her favorite soapstar actress, also come true with the powers of the magical ring, and Herb Sonic trying to find out where Doris disappeared too, making for a very sweet love story. Another story, of the two typically silly neighborhood boys who haven't discovered girls yet, Rod and Tod, keep us laughing at their animated silliness, as they also get in trouble with the magical ring, though they never knew it was magical.
If you like the comedy style of shows like Lizzie McGuire, and like fun G-rated TV tween movies, you'll love Ratz. Fun for the whole family, simple, and even my critical hardcore punk/metal friends loved the movie...
"AIRBAG!!" - Scooter 'n Spike lol... Ratz is great!
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003)
Ignore the critics, it's fun, sweet, and charming as ever
okay, sure, a critic could tell you it's not as good as the first, sure a critic could tell you some of the jokes didn't work as well, sure they could say it's just more of the same but doesn't have that spark the first one had... well, who cares about the critics anyway?! i had a bunch of fun, i smiled the whole time, and laughed really hard, and i left the theater with a big smile and the color pink on my mind... Elle Woods returns again with her incredible charm and energy, as adorable as ever.. Reese Witherspoon is perfect!! yes, it's a silly, dumb, pretty-much-a-kids-movie, so? what, you have to be all serious in life to enjoy things? lighten up! and Legally Blonde 2 is just that, a light hearted fun comedy for the whole family... i loved it! i give it a A- for simple cute fun :)
Just Visiting (2001)
super funny, really sweet, a great story
i really liked Just Visiting... even though Jean Reno is such a great dramatic actor, he has a great face and nonchalant way at comedy... Between him and his sidekick, Andre the servant, I was laughing so hard tears were gushing out of my eyes, i couldn't stop!... they're a great comedy team... And the rest of the movie was a simple but sweet classic faery tale with the honorable knight in shining honor. Christina Applegate was wonderful, a true princess, and Tara Reid was gorgeous and cute at the same time, and Bridgette Wilson made me stop breathing... The movie won't win any Oscar's, but who cares about those silly awards anyway... I had a lot of fun, laughed like crazy, and even got a couple of sweet romantic stories too, as well as some nifty effects... This is great for all ages, kids were loving it (though the special effects in the very beginning of the movie may be a little scary for little kids)... I give this movie a B+...
