Resident Alien (2021)
What is not to like? LOVE IT - WATCH IT!
This show just keeps getting better. If you have not seen this show then you are missing out on an wonderfully funny and witty series. Tudyk is amazing as the Alien - his comic timing is spot on. Everyone in the supporting cast is perfect. This is one of the best shows to come out in years!! I could watch this show and "What We Do In The Shadows" and make my year they are both so GREAT!!! Did I say WATCH IT! Watch it..It is quirky but I LOVE quirky.
Annie Live! (2021)
Technically a Fine Production - but the Acting was all over the map
The sets, costumes, choreography were WONDERFUL! The acting on the other hand was all over the map. Harry and Nicole were fine in their portrayals of Daddy Warbucks and Grace. Sherzinger was elegant and graceful. Connick had a soft way about him and a voice with his lovely tones to match. Both actor/singers are always a joy to watch and listen to in my book. A great duo! Taraji was WAY over the top in her role of Miss Hannigan - half the time it looked like a Jr. High Production with her facial expressions. She was entertaining and was well cast for the part. Megan Hilty as Lily was her lovely self and a true "Broadway" professional. Tituss was fine as Rooster. Celina Smith as Annie needed more charm. She was a lovely little girl with a lovely little voice but..... I just did not see any reason to want to adopt her. Her soft side seemed like something she had to work at and it would be easy to see her more as a villain than a hero. The whole premise seemed forced. I've never seen other productions of "Annie" so I am flying blind here and putting in my two cents. The children were excellent at the musical numbers - very impressive singers and dancers. Once again - the over the top Jr. High Production quality seemed to creep in with some of the scenes in the orphanage. All in all - it was ok. Would I recommend it - probably not. When it was good - it was good but never great. If you want a reason to watch it would be for the technical aspects.
Good Girls (2018)
WONDERFUL SHOW - DO NOT END THIS SERIES!!
What are they doing now? Cancelling this show too - series finale next week. ANY show with any merit is GONE!!
The cast is brilliant and so is the storyline. This is a must see show.
Retta, Hendricks and Whitman are priceless. LOVE the writers who give them incredible one liners. Reno Wilson - I LOVE!! He was great in "Mike and Molly" and it is nice to see his dramatic side in this show. BRAVO! Manny Montana is another gem. Matthew Lillard is perfect as the husband.
(paraphrasing) "We can't do anything criminal - I am running for city council" from Hendricks. Whitman " Ok then we can't get caught".
It is banter like this that keeps us coming back week after week. What next?? It is one of my favorite shows.
If you have never seen it - WATCH IT and starts from the beginning.
You will be hooked and wonder what the hell the critics are thinking to get rid of one of the best things on TV....
Not a Happy Camper about this one! ARG!!!!!
DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!
The Celebrity Dating Game (2021)
Poor Zoey - Poor Michael - It is like a Train Wreck - you can't look away but you should!!!
What can I say? Being a fan of the original show (despite the Dating Game Killer being a contestant on the show - ok so everyone makes a mistake).
This one is just BAD. LOVE Zoey from "That Girl" - miss the show!! She is a treasure and looks adorable but you can see she is just grinding her teeth to get through each show.
IT is just a train wreck. (I gave it 2 stars for Zoey and Michael just for being brave enough to be on this show)
I think they tell the contestants - "If you get picked DO NOT TOUCH THE CELEBRITY" - whatever you do - do not touch! It is pathetic!!
The show should be 30 minutes and NOT an hour. How many more stupid questions do these poor people have to answer? Of course - "Who do you think I am?" and then the song by Bolton - I think my mouth dropped open the 1st time I saw this. Really????
Then at the end it is like everyone is afraid to have any contact at all.
One of the best parts of the original was "the date" - you are being whisked away to the fabulous blah blah restaurant etc. All we get is NOTHING...where are they going? What are they doing? Will they even have a date? How quick can we go to commercial after the person is picked by the celeb? Oh and the kiss - don't get me started in the "blowing" the kiss.
It is all one big mess.
All I have to say is RUN ZOEY RUN!!!!! Michael follow suit!!
Dead in the Water (2018)
Borefest Inc. - Skip this one!!
Spending most of the movie looking for your other crew members and calling their names - Kat, Rusty, Kat, Rusty - they did not work hard on the dialogue for this film. The best part of the movie comes in the last 10 minutes of the film.
The creature was interesting and worth watching. Performances were ok at best. I find it hard in this day and age that none of the characters were gay on an all woman crew at sea. (refreshing) I would not even recommend this if you were bored out of your mind and had nothing else to watch. I think the Weather Channel would be more interesting. As usual with horror movies only "1" makes it out alive - oh does that include the creature - then make it two. ZZZZZZZZZZZ The End.
Mother! (2017)
Waste of time!
You would think with a great cast that you would get a great movie...boy was I wrong! A very tedious plot that culminates in a bunch of nothing. So the husband writer can't write and the wife is ignored. Who cares! Then once the strangers invade their lives and the murder that happens you would think the pace would pick up. Well - it takes forever to go nowhere. It only starts to get going in the last 20 minutes. I would SKIP this one. Life is too short!!
Me Before You (2016)
Brilliant Must See!!
Emilia Clarke is magic on the scene and her chemistry with Sam Clafin is undeniable. From the moment you see Emilia in the tea house to the last moments in Paris it is an amazing performance. Her quircky ways and sparkling eyes keep you mesmerized. What a talent! The story centers on a girl who takes a job as a care taker to a man who has been paralyzed from the neck down. The journey of the relationship from strangers to people in love is amazing. You laugh. You cry. Some people may call this a "Chick Flick" but I just call it great cinema! It is a must see for anyone who just wants a great movie. I have watched it over and over. 2 thumbs up and 10 stars in my book!
9JKL (2017)
Fire the writers
Take a great cast and give it terrible writing and bam...cancelled. The cast is worth giving the show a chance but the writing is beyond bad..sophomoric shall we say. A Jewish family that live in 3 apartments right next to each other and are always getting in each others way. The stars of "Royal Pains", "About A Boy" and "Alice"...who could ask for anything more? I will continue to watch until its ultimate end which won't be long. "About a Boy" was wonderful and what cancelled...so I can't imagine this will take long to dump. None of the networks have any idea on what to keep and what should go. "Mike and Molly"...genius and they dumped it because she lost to much weight...oh please...that was the point of the show for them to lose weight and still be happy together...oh well.............guess we have to suffer with replacement shows over and over and over............
The Last Man on Earth (2015)
Love This Show!
Take a mixed group of people who happen to be the last people on earth and set them free. It is a cute romp with twists and turns and a GREAT CAST! It is one of those shows that you can't stop watching. Kristin Whig (one of my favorite actresses) is a GREAT addition. Will Forte is just great and is such a wonderful comic. The whole cast is great. Just watch this show...you will love it. I won't give anything away because you just need to watch!
Once Upon a Time (2011)
Adult Fairy Tales and then some....GREAT~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is one of the greatest shows of all time. The cast is perfect and the costumes are the best I have ever seen on a TV show. Forget the stupid cartoon shows like the Simpsons which caters to the mindless. This show takes you to every Fairy Tale you grew up with and explores all the characters. It does take some license with plot lines but once you start watching you are hooked! You will fall in love with Snow White and Prince Charming and their daughter Emma. Henry is wonderful and not to mention the evil and not so evil Queen. It makes you laugh and makes you cry and leaves you wanting more. Try it and you will LOVE it! It is one of my favs of all time.....just BRILLIANT!!
Crazy Eights (2006)
You might want to skip this one....
The premise is very interesting. Children being experimented on and then most are never seen again. This movie follows some of those children who are now grown up. The problem with the movie is that the death scenes are too short and not enough screen time for the viewer of a true horror movie to appreciate. Flash backs would have been a HUGE plus so you could see what the children had to go through. Once again I do like the plot. The actors were fine. The directing was the problem. I think this deserves a remake where you go more in depth with characters and their ultimate demise. If you want a movie where someone lives at the end - no luck Chuck! The ending was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and did not play enough on the horror that these children went through. I say SKIP IT!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again (2016)
Waste of Time
Just awful.............looked like it was filmed in a HS Gym...casting was horrible! Could not even watch this mess of a production. The original was sublime. This was a mess from the beginning. I stopped watching after a half hour that I will never get back. Shame on the people who thought that they could re-make a classic. Adam Lambert looked like some maniac and he has so much talent that is was a shame to see what they made him do. Not the Meatloaf from the original. He had the potential to blow the roof off this role but NO........it was just a mess. Tim Curry looked like he needed to be in a home. This production made me so angry of the mess it created that all I can say is DO NOT WATCH THIS. WOW...what a waste of time and money and NO TALENT. Just go away horrible remake.
Carrie (2013)
Why make a re-make of a classic! Did Stephen King approve this?? I hope NOT!
"Carrie" is an American Classic horror movie. The cast of the original "Carrie" was iconic. This has a C+ cast. Julianne Moore is a brilliant actress but does not hold a candle to Piper Laurie in this role. Chloë Grace Moret is already beautiful so there is not much to make her "prettier" for the prom. The whole movie is just lacking. The tele- kinetic powers seem forced and not scary. There are a few differences from the original. After Carrie is covered in blood at the prom - she does check to see if her date is OK...he is not! Is he dead? Probably. Amy Irving was perfect as Sue..the new Sue is milk toast. None of the cast lives up to their predecessors. The ending is so bad...has nothing on the original which made me jump out of my seat. People live at the end of this Carrie. After watching every "Carrie" re-make - I would NOT recommend this movie unless you are completely bored and there is NOTHING on TV. Very disappointing. AND - the filming of Carrie's first period in the shower and then posting it online...YIKES..welcome to the 21st century. Garbage in and garbage out. My recommendation SKIP IT!
Waitress (2007)
Great Script and well acted by an amazing cast
Adrienne Shelly did a wonderful job of crafting, directing and acting in this amazing story of the lives of several people in a small town. Keri Russell is wonderful as Jenna who is a woman trapped in a loveless marriage with no hopes of anything for the future. Her abusive husband played by Jeremy Sisto (who did a wonderful job) showed the plight of the middle American woman and the anguish they suffer in a small town and the small minded egocentric self absorbed male that feels the woman is there to serve his needs and nothing more. Nathan Fillion was wonderful as the small town doctor that provided a ray of hope to his patient Jenna. He gave a glimpse of what is could be like to be wanted and loved. Cheryl Hines is great as Becky the hardened woman with an invalid husband who just wants more out of life. Adrienne Shelly is superb as Dawn. Her quirky character looking for love is priceless. Andy Griffith is great as Joe the cranky Pie Shop Owner who only wanted the life he could have had but always passed on. I would recommend this to anyone. This Tranche de vie is well worth watching. The cast is perfect and the script is wonderful. The sad part is that Adrienne was killed shortly after making this movie. It looked at first that she had committed suicide but later determined that she had been killed by a worker in her building. She caught him trying to steal from her purse and he killed her and made it look like a suicide. He later confessed to these facts. She left behind a husband and small daughter (who appears in the film). Perhaps more of a "chick flick" I would suggest this to anyone who loves a good movie. It will make you laugh and tear up and at the end it just works out.
Girls Gone Dead (2012)
Made for teenage boys....JUST BAD!
OK..the fact that I finished this movie is a miracle. BOOBS gone wild is basically what is going on here. I am a woman...but if I had the boobs that they show in this movie I would make an appointment with a DR. ASAP! Pancake central...There are "Carrie" undertones that could have been explored much much more. I wonder when people write these scripts do they think that we are all just stupid?? OK ..let's just show T and A...that is all we need to do............sigh... We need more Stephen King's on this planet to give us all something to watch. This was just DUMB! There was some promise from the lead actress for the future but READ THE SCRIPT! OK Calgon ...TAKE ME AWAY!! SIGH!!
Don't Blink (2014)
It is one of "Those" Movies
It has a great cast and a great story line but it is one of "Those" Movies.....what do I mean by that...it is one that at the end you say "Um"............why did they disappear? OK so lets back up...a group of friends decides to go to the mountains for a quiet weekend. When they get to the lodge there is no one there...they find food not eaten, water running, a baby chair with no baby...and then THEY start to disappear. One by One with no warning. There is a lot of suspense as they are right next to each other and then POOF....GONE. So you wait the whole movie to see WHY and you get NOTHING!................I hate these movies - give me a resolution already...........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH With such a great cast and script ...give me an ending!!!!! I got nothing!
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Ahhhh get ready for a nap!
Slow, slow, slow...did I mention it is slow? The music is the typical 70's - 80's horror music....so bad so bad so bad...did I mention it was SO BAD! The dialogue is stilted as one would imagine in the decade and genre. Cast was just OK. The age in the brothers was so wrong. He is 18 and his kid brother should have been at least 14 but he looked like he was 10. I guess if you are a boy looking for "boobie" shots..there you go. If you want a fast paced horror movie with thrills...um no! I would like to see this movie re-made in 2015. I think it would hold your interest much better. I love horror but this.........um..........NO.....this is a great movie if you want to take a nap during the movie............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Last Ship (2014)
WONDERFUL and must see!!
Having just seen the first episode I am hooked! It is a MOVIE on TV! The cast is great! The plot is great! Love everything about it! So..what is it about? There is a virus in Egypt and 2 scientists go to help. They end up with samples on a Naval War ship. They LIE to the reason they are there. While research is gone on there is a pandemic. Countries of the world are crumbing as everyone is dying. The last hope is on board the Navy ship to try and save humanity, It is worth watching to see who and who will not be saved.I am captivated by the entire process. I can't wait to see episode 2. I have to keep tying to submit my review...................are you kidding me............sigh
Chained (2012)
Step into the mind of a Serial Killer
A very disturbing ride into the sadistic mind of a serial killer. Start with the abduction of a Mother and Son. Kill the Mother but keep the son who is only 9 years old. There ensues the torture and mental abuse that keep this poor child on the brink of madness. Chained for most of his life and being under the constant eye of the serial killer who took his mother's life. "Rabbit" beings to deteriorate while hiding inside his own mind. The murders continue (all are off screen for those of you who want to know). Great cast! Great plot! It keeps you on the edge of your seat and the turn at the end is unexpected. I would love to see "Chained 2". Worth a watch!!!
Zoom In: We Are the Millers (2013)
What a FUN Movie!
With an unlikely cast of characters this is a fun movie to watch. Enter Jason Sudakis who is a Drug Courier. His neighbor is stripper Jennifer Aniston. Then enter his other neighbor, a young boy abandoned by his Mother and a homeless girl from the streets. So, what does this add up to? While trying to help the homeless girl who is being beat up by a bunch of street thugs, Sudakis steps in only to be ratted out by his nosy young boy neighbor that he indeed sells drugs. Now Sudakis is the target and gets all of his money and drugs stolen. His dealer (Ed Helms from "The Hangover") finds out and NOW he must make it right. He has to make a trip to Mexico to retrieve a shipment of drugs. Well, how is he going to do that? After seeing an RV on the street with a home town family who is graciously helped by the police a light bulb goes off! OK..so now he needs a family. With a few bribes he gets the stripper, the abandoned teen and the homeless girl to take over the roles. This band of misfits starts out on a plane and then an RV to Mexico. At first, there is much discontent but as the adventure continues they become united. There is comedy, action, adventure and FUN! I loved watching this one. Great for a fun movie night. BUT watch until the end because the outtakes are WONDERFUL!!!
Pacific Rim (2013)
Non Stop Special Effects Romp
With the world being taken over by Godzilla Like Alien Beings the earth has to act fast before it is completely destroyed. Human beings create Giant Robots to combat the alien forces. These robots must be piloted by 2 humans in tandem to defeat the evil foe. This was amazing to watch with incredible special effects. It is an Sci Fi delight. Costing over $190 million to make, the action is incredible. The cast is not full of known actors except for Ron Perlman who is wonderful in his slimy role, never the less they do a great job. I had to watch this on a small screen, but I am sure in the theater it was incredible with the sounds and size of the screen. If you like Sci Fi and are into video games then this is the movie for you. I really liked this one. Give it a try!
Chillerama (2011)
"Cum" erama is a better name for this movie
So..this is a campy romp of numerous shorts. It is interesting to watch but what do you say about this movie? Boobs and sex..OK so that is typical with any horror movie. This is a major "cum" fest on many levels. It has many interesting cast members that have a lot of talent. Why they chose to do this movie is beyond me. The first title is "Wadzilla"...about a giant sperm that grows and attacks people. Need I say more? It has many elements of the horror genre..zombies, hacking off heads, boobs everywhere. I like the campy aspect of this movie but I really don't know if I would recommend it. I guess if you have nothing better to do and want a horror movie with a laugh factor then watch on.
Bates Motel (2013)
Must See.....Exceptional Cast and Storyline
When you see a title like "Bates Motel" you think that it will be corny and campy. The first episode had me hooked. Vera Farmiga as "Norma" and Freddie Highmore as "Norman" are Emmy worthy. This show lets you see what "Mother" was really like and why Norman was so obsessed with her in "Psycho". The performances are amazing and so is the plot. It lets you dig into the inner workings of Norman's mind. They do a brilliant job of casting the characters that surround them. Since the demise of "Dexter" there needed to be a show that kept you watching week after week. This is the show. If you have never tried to watch this A&E series - then it is time that you did. Watch from the beginning to get all the nuances of the characters. I give this one 4 thumbs up! BRAVO!
Hannibal (2013)
Dark, Dark, Dark
I am a HUGE fan of Bryan Fuller who has created such amazing shows as "Dead Like Me", "Pushing Daisies" and "Wonderfalls" but his one?? It takes you into a dark realm of serial killers and cannibals. The cast does a great job. The murders are horrific and something that nightmares of a twisted mind are made of. It is very dark and the imagery is haunting. Don't watch this before you go to bed! It is one of those shows that you don't want to watch but something about it pulls you back. The meals that Hannibal prepares are done with grace and aplomb even though he cooking human parts. The visions of Will are disturbing and violent. If you want happy, happy, joy, joy just run! If you want a thrill ride into a disturbing mind with blood and gore then this is your cup of tea.
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2013)
Brilliant and the series was way too short!
In a time of magic (as so began another great series "Merlin") this was a wonderful series cut way too short. (One can only hope they come back on "Once Upon A Time). With an amazing cast, Sophie Lowe as "Alice" and Peter Gadiot as "The Genie" are a wonderful couple. The story revolves around Alice and her adventures in Wonderland. The real world thinks that she is crazy but of course she is not. She journeys into Wonderland to find her love and adventures ensue. The voice of John Lithgow as the White Rabbit is perfect. Michael Socha is a great Knave of a Hearts. Emma Rigby is brilliant as the Red Queen. Naveen Andrews is the PERFECT Jafar. What I really LOVE about this show and "Once Upon A Time" is that it give adults a fairytale to love. If you don't want to grow up...then try this one. Go back to the time of childhood and enjoy falling in love with love. I will miss this dearly. I cannot believe that they canceled this show. Great writing, great scenery, great cast.........what more do you need??? The one big plus is that if you had to end this amazing show they did it perfectly. Bravo to the writers. I guess next time we may be finding ourselves in OZ as a series.
